Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Exactly how Eminem was able to assemble so many credible emcees of today and yesteryear (Jay-Z, Rakim) to endorse his Holly'hood coming-out party, 8 Mile, is anyone's guess. What is clear, however, is that (dare we say it) the Shady One might be growing up. On "Lose Yourself" Em abandons his callous, hardcore posturing to write thoughtful hood-centric coming-of-age lyrics that would make Melle Mel proud. On "Battle" Gang Starr's Guru tears through a sick beat from rap's most prolific producer DJ Premier. Sadly, Nas wastes more valuable studio time dissing Jay-Z (ho-hum) on "You Wanna Be Me". Interestingly, once you get past the living-legend love-in and peep the skills from Em's lesser-known Shady Records roster of below-ground wordsmiths--50 Cent ("Wanksta") or Obie Trice ("Adrenaline Rush"), you might urge Em to consider giving up his thespian pursuits to become a full-time record executive. Not even the baffling inclusion of Macy Gray's humdrum "Time of Your Life" can sink this project. --Dalton Higgins

Customer Reviews

It may not do what it says on the tin, but it's worth the cash.4
As previous reviews have suggested, this compilation disc doesn't really do the job that its front cover claims, as the songs in the movie are pretty much absent. However, for Eminem fans and just rap fans, this is a release well worth buying, as the standard of quality is high throughout.

Obviously the most important material here is that of Eminem, most of which is exclusive to this disc. You get 'Lose Yourself,' one of his best and least profane tracks, with some of his finest rhymes, as well as the title track, a very classy track. There's also 'Rabbit Run,' later a b-side to 'Sing For The Moment,' a single three-minute verse that's more or less about having writer's block and a song with D12 that's well worth a look. It's all good material.

The other odds and ends that appear here are also mostly worth listening to. Whilst 50 Cent's contributions are worthless, as is his own material, there is a stellar track from Jay-Z, Nas and the legendary Rakim. All in all, whilst this disc is by no means 'music from and inspired by 8 mile,' it's simply a great rap compilation with some excellent rare Eminem songs on it. Put it in your collection with his four studio albums and greatest hits.

8 mile was not too bad but5
This makes up for it the music alot better from likes of 50,jayz,macy gray and d12.Eninem a dam good rapper but this album not his strongest album but close. Really ive only got Encore and the eninem show which is something. What makes this album so strong is its most varied out the other 2 albums i got of his its defently worth getting.

they've gone the extra mile4
It's not a bad album though some tracks seem a little tedious and boring for likings. Of course the dime in the album 'Lose Yourself' and 50 Cent's 'Places To Go' are good, the rest doesn't really live up to the movie itself. Not bad but not brilliant
