Product Description

Classic games often fall well short of fond memories, but every now and then one reappears that proves that a few of the oldies were completely gripping, even by today's standards. Bubble Bobble Old & New is one such game. The Game Boy Advance edition contains both the classic arcade version of the game and a new version featuring all-new graphics, music and sounds, level layouts and items, plus an item library from which you can collect 99 power-ups. Both versions of the game have a two-player option that can be accessed from a single cartridge with the aid of a link cable.

Amazon.co.uk Review
Forget your newfangled 3-D graphics and 20-minute-long cut-scenes: Bubble Bobble is back to make gaming fun again with ultra-cool old-skool platforming action. Few games can claim to be as beloved as Bubble Bobble, from its toe-tappingly marvellous music to the simple yet maddingly addictive gameplay that's as fun now as it's always been. This GBA release contains two versions of the game, one a more-or-less exact conversion of the original arcade game and the other a new graphically enhanced version with a few minor gameplay tweaks.

The goal in both versions is simple: just clear a single, platform-infested screen of enemies. You get rid of the bad guys by blowing a bubble at them and capturing them inside it, then popping the incarcerated evildoer with the spikes on your dragony back. Apart from the excellent level design and two-player mode--which perfectly balances cooperation and back-stabbing--the game keeps things interesting by offering lots of power-ups and an almost infinite array of different bonuses to pick up.

The game works very well on the GBA but the more pedantic of BB fans will grimace disapprovingly at the fact that the "old" arcade version isn't quite as faithful as it could be, with needlessly altered music and changes to the way the bonuses appear; the new graphics for heroes Bub and Bob aren't much cop in the "new" version either. That's nit-picking, though, for this is still one of the best games yet for the GBA, whether or not you've played it in any of its previous incarnations. --David Jenkins

A Gaming Classic!4
Bubble Bobble was first released by Taito way back in 1986, since then it's become renouned as a Gaming Classic, Bub & Bob have made appearances on almost any gaming format imaginable, from Atari, to Playstation and now Gameboy Advance! The aim of the game is simple, guide one of 2 friendly dinosaurs (Bub or Bob) through 100 levels to save their girlfriends. The concept is easy to learn, but needs alot of skill to master. Thisgame has 2 versions, Old & New, Old is a direct copy of the classic arcade format, the new is the old version beefed up to the max with Outstanding graphics, and added gameplay! Whether young or old, this game will entertain anyone and is a great Christmas Gift idea. So, get that credit card out and buy it today!

Retro gaming as it should be4
I used to play this game to death in the days of the Atari ST and Amiga and here it is, in the palm of your hand - as fun and frustrating before. Actually, not as frustrating as before as you don't have to keep playing through the earlier levels (the battery backup will remember how far you have got (and allow two different players to keep track of their own progress). The new version looks nice and polished but I have been keeping to the purity of the original which seems to play as I remember. Is it just me or is the collision detection somewhat forgiving? Maybe on the small screen of the GBA that is no bad thing. Even my daughter (nearly 5) loves it.

Roll on Rainbow Islands!

Bubbleh AND Bobbleh5
I'm sure they've tinkered with the level theme on the old setting, it sounds nothing like I remember

Other than that its the daddy. Old has the classic graphics and is harder than I cared to recall. The New is bascially Old with better graphics, different music.
It comes with a free link cable thus meaning two can have hours of linked up fun with only one cart. Of course for the full experience both need to have carts

If you are new to gaming then maybe this isn't to you since most new people prefer the violence and nature of games like GTA. But if you are older and fancy a tasty piece of nostaglia for your GBA. Ave it. I'm crossing ma fingers for Snake Rattle and Roll
