CD Description
Relishing the artistic freedom afforded by the success of WHAT'S GOING ON, Marvin Gaye recorded this sultry paean to sex. Where its predecessor relied on complex arrangements, thestraightforward sound of LET'S GET IT ON focused attention on its tight rhythms, strong melodies, and Gaye's expressive, nuanced singing. For sheer sensual come-on, it's hard to beat the title track, one of the finest celebrations of the joys of human chemistry ever recorded. But the self-explanatory "Come Get to This" and "You Sure Love to Ball" aren't farbehind in terms of passionate execution and visceral impact.
Though LET'S GET IT ON has its reflective moments, notably the beautiful ballad "Distant Lover", Gaye's focus is onthe here and now, and the intensity of his vocal performances and the silky, fluid feel of the arrangements inform the sensual "carpe diem" philosophy. Just as WHAT'S GOING ON opened the floodgates for political soul music, LET'S GET IT ONdefined the "lover man" genre populated by luminaries like Al Green, Barry White, and Isaac Hayes.

Unbelievable..........
I just can't believe that I am the first person to write a review on what is one of the classic soul albums of the last century!!! This album is a masterpiece of sexy smouldoring soul. If you haven't got it in your collection don't hesitate as you will not be dissappointed. Marvin at his very best - worth it for the title track alone, and the whole album is fantastic!!
Sensual, sexy and smooth...
I love Marvin and I love this album. I don't think it was Marvin's best but it is a solid album and the first in which Marvin blantantly showcases his sexuality which was always waiting to come out but which marvin had tried to hide. There is of course the classic title track which speaks for itself but my favourite tracks are 'Come get to this' and 'You sure love to ball' which are amazingly sexy songs and marvins voice just sounds divine on them. Other notable tracks are 'Please stay' and 'distant lover' which follow the similiar theme of begging for a lover to return. It is of course a lovers album probably first and foremost as all the tracks have a sensual theme or mood about them but I also think its just a chilled mellow album that you can listen to when you want to relax.I would recommend this album to all fans of marvin as it is an amazing album sung by an amazing and legendary talent.
There are no words!......
The magnificance of this album is almost indescribable. Being 21 years old, I was born slightly after Marvin had died, but nonetheless I am a huge fan of his music. Most people will have heard 'let's get it on' and even if that was the only good song on the album it would be worth buying. however, the other songs are all at least as good or even better than the title track, particularly 'Just to Keep you Satisfied' and 'Distant Lover'. A refreshing change from the albums of nowadays which usually consist of 2 or 3 good singles and fillers.
