Just Whitney is the follow-up to Whitney Houston's career reinventing comeback album, My Love Is Your Love, and it finds the former soul-pop star settling comfortably into the role of R&B elder stateswoman. As with its predecessor, the R&B big guns have been wheeled out to ensure the slickest production an artist of her standing can buy. So while instant hits are thin on the ground, the efforts of Babyface and Destiny's Child collaborator She'kspere ensure that the likes of "Tell Me No" and "One Of Those Days" roll to superior and enduring grooves, while the Missy Elliott penned and produced "Things You Say" is gorgeous down-tempo smoulder.
Above all though, Just Whitney is an uncharacteristically personal album. Clearly prompted by press reports of breakdowns and alleged drug problems, strident first single "Whatchulookinat", with its defiant "the same spotlight that gave me fame's trynna dirty up Whitney's name", makes plain her feelings towards the press. Likewise, gospel-tinged duet with husband Bobby Brown, "My Love", ably quashes rumours of their marriage's demise. Unwelcome as Houston no doubt finds such trials and tribulations, the effect on her music is unquestionable. Just Whitney has more substance and soul than any album in her 120 million-selling back catalogue, assuring that in the oversubscribed world of R&B, Whitney is still very much a contender. --Dan Gennoe

Customer Reviews
I love this album!
Ignore all the reviews that have been given above! Trust me! This album rocks- people just trash anything that isn't like the bodyguard soundtrack..and thats just true! This album is quality RnB/Pop songs. If you like that genre of music then you will like this album!
The first track 'Whatchulookinat'- I love this song and I like the lyrics to it as well- It's sort of a Michael Jackson/Mary J Blige song..I'm glad she has finally blasted back at the Media for trashing her and her marriage to Bobby Brown. Great tune!
The 2nd track- Tell me No- again its basically a filler but its a great track anyway- i love the lyrics, e.g. 'and I just can't wait for the day that I can rub things in your face/I'm not gonna stop, till I reach the top I'm number 1'! Again b,asting the media.
The 3rd track is a great song- One of Those days- a soft/soulful voice on this tune- a classic RnB tune- RnB lovers will love it!
Things you say which is produced by the Genious Missy Elliot- if you have heard her previous album (My Love is Your Love, track 'Oh Yes', it sort of resembles that, I recommend My Love is Your Love album). The sing itslef is a great slow jamz!
My Love- with Bobby Brown- This is a great tune. It has a gospel feel to it also. The bridge 'you gotta go through the fire, the rain, take the joy and endure the pain' is fantastic! It's a beautiful song even better than Whitney and Bobby's previous collaboration 'Something in Common'.
Love that man- this is a great tune! Its upbeat and her voice is great init- a dance tune!
On My own (aka Try it on my own)- this is the highlight of the album. Whitney's vocals shine through on this proving that she can still do it! Her voice is so smooth and soulful on this tune! It resembles aspects of the 'Greatest Love of All' and 'I will always love you'. Worth buying this album just for this track alone!
Dear John Letter/Unashamed- this tracks are proper RnB tunes! Whitney's vocals on Unashamed are spot on!
The album ends with a remix of Whatchulookinat featuring P.Diddy...a great remix!
I would give this album 4 out of 5!

Tell me no? okay NO!!
I love whitney houston but some things have to be said...
Track 1 Whatchulookinat?
Not a bad cut, the songs good but wheres the voice?
Track 2 Tell Me No.
Not really feeling this one, by the end of the song i was screaming NOOOOOOOOOO at the stereo!! (not a good sign)
Track 3 Things You Say
I've listened to this once and didnt even get to the end of the song before i skipped to the next one!!
Track 4 One of Those Days
Wow this one was repeated 3 times before i moved onto the next track!! Absolutely fantastic, my favourite. It sounds a little different to her usual stylings but sounds great, i'm impressed!!
Track 5 My Love
Can someone pass me a bucket? i think i may vomit! Whitney yes, bobby brown yes, whitney and bobby singing together? i think not! I know she loves the fool, but do we really have to subjected to this?? The guy sounds terrible which makes whitney sound terrible, its a shame because this song may have been quite good if she had got someone else to do bobby's vocals, like a cat for example!!
Track 6 Love that man.
If you're refering to bobby i'd rather not!! The song isnt actually too bad i do listen to it but again no-where near what she can achieve vocally.
I'm going to stop there because i dont want to slate the girl too much, i'm just really disappointed. Take any other whitney album and i guarantee you'll love it but this album shows that when you hit a rough patch in life ur work really WILL suffer. I'm hoping by the time the new album is released late 2005 early 2006 she'll be back on top form. The world music awards 2004 where whitney sung I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU shows that whitney has got what it takes and has the vocal ability to move an audience to tears, in a good way (did u see celine dion? i wept too!! cuz whitney was amazing). If ur a die hard fan you will already have the JUST WHITNEY album, but if ur not and havent bought the album then leave it where it is, just wait for the next one to be released and be amazed!!
