Manufacturer's Description
The earbud-style headphones rely on Neodymium transducers, a rare earth magnet that significantly enhances frequency response and overall sound quality -- in fact, five times as powerful as other headphones that use aluminium, cobalt, or ceramic drivers.
The wired remote lets you fast forward, rewind, play/pause, and control the volume with four simple buttons. The Hold switch allows you to lock your iPod remote so buttons can't be pressed accidentally. Clip the remote to your lapel, shirt, or collar for easy access.
This iPod Remote and Earbud set is not compatible with 3rd Generation, 4th Generation iPod with Click Wheel or iPod mini. For an iPod Remote and Earbud set for these models, please use [M9128G/A].

Could Be Better
A decent pair of headphones that at least matches (in Apple white) the iPod's color(less) scheme. However if looks are not your primary consideration in choosing headphones for your iPod, you should probably look elsewhere. The cord is way too long and the remote (though nifty) adds even more length, sound quality is only average for the price.
Buy one even if ya dont have an ipod!
If youve already got a new 10gb or 20gb ipod then youll already be familiar with this lil bundle of joy. If you own the 5gb ipod then listen up!
Firstly the headphones are made of Neodymium. A very useful and mysterious substance that not only repels Superman but produces a bit more OOMPH for your money. These can pack a quite powerful punch but they are still the standard earphones that came with the player. In other words, not as good as they could be. Throw them out and get your hands on a better set. One good pair are the Sony MDR-EX70LP 's, found on the shelves of this very online store. They produce a more defined bass then the Apple 'phones and are generally tip-top notch! Saying that though, you know all this already as they came with the ipod itself.
On to the remote then. I love the remote for several raisins.
Numero Uno - Its so cool to not have to risk scratching the player every time you want to change a track (believe me it happens a lot). Also you can give knowing nods at people with ipods as they'll have one of these hanging on them somewhere!
Point number two - Its very well made and designed. It lacks an LCD screen but this is irrelevant: who needs to look at a line of text to see which track is playing? Thats why you have ears. The design is very minimalist, matches the ipod to a T, well done Apple! Im glad they stayed away from the route of over complicating it with more buttons than it needs (step forward Creative's Nomad remote). The best bit of the design is that if you ever get bored of the Kryptonite Earphones theres no need to ditch the remote as it has a standard headphone jack in the top. Well done Apple for not forcing people to use Apple branded headpones as well.
Point C - The price! This is about half the price of the Creative Jukebox remote and ya get headfones as well...
Are my ears the wrong shape??
Firstly, I'd like to say I would rate the remote at 4 stars and the earphones at 2 stars, thus the rating of 3 stars overall.
The earphones: I find these earphones extremely uncomfortable after even short periods of time. I am used to using Sony fontopia style earphones (the moulded tear drop style, with or without the little extended moulding which goes into your ear) or otherwise the sony earbuds (those with the super squidgy bits that go right into your ears). These ipod earphones are not moulded in the slightest, they are plain round and also fairly large. This lead to them digging into my ears and causing them to become sore. I decided to give them another chance with the foam coverings attached and this did make them more comfortable (I could use them up to around 45mins at a time). But needless to say, I am currently back to using my old sony earbuds. A positive though, the earphones produce good quality sound...but if I can't listen to the music with them for more than 45mins at a time its hardly worth it when my Sonys give just as good a sound (and with more ambient sound deadening as they go deeper into my ears).
The remote: Does exactly what it says on the tin. It plugs into the top of your ipod and acts as a remote. No fuss. It merits 4 stars and not 3 because it is lovely to look at and to the touch. It has a nice feel and a lovely weight. The buttons have a very positive press-action (you know when you've pressed it or not) and it is not over cluttered with butons.
In summary: I am fortunate in that I did not buy these as a separate earphone/remote solution (they came with my ipod). I cannot really recommend them as a standalone product. The remote is lovely but not worth the asking price of around £30. Just buy some earphones with a long cord and an in-line remote or volume control.
