Customer Reviews
Excellent follow up to the first After Hours comp
This CD is extraordinary..... it's a fantastic (and eagerly awaited by me at least!) follow-up to the first After Hours CD that came out a couple of years ago.
The quality of tracks is amazing...... Track 1, The Apollas / Mr Creator is a fantastic stomper, and Track 3, Ben E. King / I Can't Break The News To Myself is so fantastic that I play it back to back on repeat forever!!
Other highlights are Archie Bell & The Drells - Here I Go Again and Charles Thomas - Man With The Golden Touch
All in all, a fantastic comp which is well worth the mid-range price.
Classic Northen Soul
It contains a good mix of mainly familiar oldies to the hard core Northern Soul lover. Many go back to the days of The Torch and earlier. Hopefully some younger ears will be in the lucky position to hear these gems for the first time.
No unreleased goodies but still a pretty nice collection. Nice to see the Deon Jackson gem getting a re-issue - it was always one of my faves amongst his many great recordings. Linda Jones stunning performance is a great example of the real SOUL that Northern fans have loved for many years. Dance beats are fine but when coupled with a superb vocal the result is perfection. I remember John Peel playing Charles Thomas on Radio One back in the early seventies when he said the "Northern Soul is the only true underground music scene".
This is a great value collection with some great pre Wigan Ccasino classics and it is a worthy collection that stands up well.
Buy without fear
As the title suggests the second in a series of Northern Soul from the Vaults of Atlantic, Atco, Loma, Reprise, and Warner Brothers from 1964-72.
Compiled by Richard Searling and Rick Conrad and good liner notes on all the tracks by Mr S.
Standout tracks for me are the Joanie Sommers stomper Don’t pity me, The Embers-where did I go wrong which has some great horns on it, Deon Jackson – That’s what you do to me and Bobby Sheen’s Something new to do.
This compilation is as good if not better than the first After Hours and highly recommended 4 stars.
