Amazon.co.uk Review
Two comely teenage lesbian lovers from Russia who happen to sing? That seems more like a marketing masterstroke than pop music likelihood, so it's fair to question the authenticity of t.A.T.u.'s English language debut 200 Km/h in the Wrong Lane. It's impossible to know where t.A.T.u.'s talent begins and ends and just how much influence their various handlers and producer Trevor Horn had over the record but it's probably a moot point to the intended demographic. Horn's background working with electro-pop dandies Pet Shop Boys and Frankie Goes to Hollywood is evident in the crisp, driving synth cushioning singers Lena Katina and Julia Volkova's gossamer vocals.
Wink-nudge lyrical references to girls loving girls--presented in serviceable if phonetic English--are in evidence, though they're more coy than graphic. "All the Things She Said", a sparkly, chorus-driven rave-up, seems to make the case for sexual equality, while "Show Me Love" (which appears in regular and extended versions) is a dancefloor missive aimed straight at the clubs. Best, though is an unintentionally ironic cover of the Smiths' "How Soon Is Now". The song, a benchmark of loneliness and hopelessness, is utterly transformed into a chirpy duet which, all things considered, may be the best gimmick of all. -Kim Hughes
CD Description
English-language version of million-selling debut album by young female Moscow pop duo. Exploding to fame on the back of their single 'All The Things She Said' and its attendant scandalous video, they are the first Russian act to sign to aWestern major label. The album, with a hard, electronic sound similar to the Prodigy, was remastered by Trevor Horn (Pet Shop Boys, Seal, Frankie Goes To Hollywood) and also includes the second single 'Not Gonna Get Us'.

Awesome!
It's a long time since a new song has had the kind of impact on me as 'All The Things She Said' did when I first heard it - even more remarkable when the song retains its impact on the 50th time of hearing. Yet arguably that is not the best track on this quite superb album. The songs on here are all pure class. The album kicks off with the driven 'Not Gonna Get Us', perfectly encompassing the feelings of isolation and anger felt by the young protagonists, as we are led to believe. 'All The Things She Said' should be played loud every time, and is followed by 'Show Me Love' which oscillates between the calm and thoughtful to the frantic - this song will be huge. '30 Minutes' slows things down, and the cover of the Smiths' 'How Soon Is Now' is certianly interesting, but very well executed. 'Clowns' makes good use of an acoustic guitar to drive the verses, and 'Malchik Gay' contrasts yet again. Finally 'Stars' seems to hit another level, a conclusion to all the emotional turmoil expressed in the previous tracks. The remaining songs are Russian versions of 'All The Things She Said' and 'Not Gonna Get Us' which lose nothing in the transition back to their original form, and remixes of 'Show Me Love' and '30 Minutes'.
Though short (only 8 stand-alone tracks) this is a great collection. The vocals hit the spot, expressing the wonder, confusion and desperation of the alledged situation of the girls perfectly, and lent another dimention by the accents of Julia and Lena. The production is slick but not overdone, and after one listen you are left with a sense that Tatu already have a sound that is distictly 'theirs'. Highly recommended.
Tatu.....the best ever
'200 KM/H In The Wrong Lane'the debut English language album from Russian Techno-pop Duet t.A.T.u. (Comprised of Julia Volkova And Lena Katina) has to be, by far, the best album of this year
it's comprised mostly of hard guitar influenced dance tracks that will leave you begging for more, it leads into its slower moments with ballads ("30 Minutes", "Stars", and the oh-so-creepy "Clowns") that will pull at your heart strings more than any pop ballad you've ever heard, after those are the Russian versions of "All the things she said" (Ya Soshla S Uma) and "Not Gonna Get Us" (Nas Ne Dogoniat) ..even if you dont speak the language (i personally dont) you cant help but realise the strength of there voices and the harsh-ness of the original language
Beautiful voices...
Great Beats...
intelligent songwriting...
its like nothing you've ever hear before
theres old pop...and then theres t.A.T.u.
Must Have
This is the first album from t.A.t.U and is great mix of Russian and English "alternative music". The tracks that are on this album are very diverse. They range from dance to Rock to chilled(All The Things She Said-Not Gonna Get Us - Stars). The CD is split in to English and Russian versions of the tracks and this adds a great feeling to the album, as you can experience the songs in two totally different languages. This may seem dull or unappealing, but the songs are so good and have been converted cleverly so that you wont be disappointed. In fact i can say that some of the tracks that have a mix of English and Russian are just as good as the single language tracks. The t.A.t.U fever has already spread across many European countries going platinum in Norway and is set to storm the US and the UK charts! This is a great album to buy. I bought the album after only hearing "All the Things She Said" and was not disappointed by the rest of the tracks. The fresh sound of this Russian girl duo flows through the CD and is in my opinion a must buy! You will not be disappointed!
