Another good release from Kent compiled by Ady Croasdell and Trevor Churchill with great liner notes/pictures on songs and artists.

Tracks worth a mention Darrell Banks – Angel Baby, The Drifters with a Northern soul number from 1970 with great vocals from Bill Fredricks. The classic Falcons –I’m a fool I must love you, which is a must have and in my top 20 all time greats. The Dream lovers featuring Russ Gardner with You gave me something to love.

A surprise offering from Sister Sledge who you would not expect to appear on an album like this but lifted when they were with the Atco label in their early days before Nile and Rodgers took over.

A standard from Archie Belle and the Drells – Here I go again which everyone must have already. Archie also booked for this years 2004 togetherness Fleetwood bash.

Then an interesting Stax number from the Astors, which almost has a ska, beat running through it and a great record.

This is a mixed bunch the good ones being good and the average being just that, overall worth three and a half stars. I think this is aimed more at the 60’s connoisseur, as some of the soul is old soul even doo wop, old rock and roll like the inclusion of a Little Richard number.

There’s better value out there like The golden age of Northern Soul, which is 2 discs and cheaper.

Essential first purchase!5
... Compiled in the best traditions of 60's soul compilations (which often introduced listeners to less obvious, non single soul tunes), the album is a fantastic mix of club and turntable soul, which leans towards someone new to the genre. The majority of tracks here are well known, heavily played classic soul moments with a few lesser known tracks thrown in just to make things interesting.

Kent compilations are always worth a listen, and this one can go alongside "At The Club" and "Chess Club Rhythm n Soul" as essential for anyone looking to build a collection of 60's mod and club soul.

Expertly compiled by Ady Croasdell, with the usual in depth liner notes by Dave Godin. My advice? Buy it!
