No Mercy 2002!
Tag Team Championship
Chris Jericho & Christian Champions vs. Booker T & Goldust
A good opener but nothing special until the rope breaks, which is what this bout will be remembered for. 7/10
Dawn Marie vs. Torrie Wilson
A average match with two non-wrestlers. 5/10
Rob Van Dam vs. Ric Flair
Flair was a little slow in this one, and couldn't keep up with Van Dam's wrestling style. 6/10
Cruiserweight Championship
Jamie Noble Champion, with Nidia vs. Tajiri
A very good match, with innovative moves. A decent match overall. 8/10
World Heavyweight & Intercontinental Championships Match
Winner Take All
Triple H vs. Kane
An above average match. Some well-placed interference in this one. 7/10
WWE Tag Team Championship Tournament Finals
Edge & Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit
Match of the night. Great match with loads of new tag team moves. Great. 10/10
Women's Championship
Trish Stratus Champion vs. Victoria
Crowd didn't really know who Victoria was. Better than Torrie/Dawn but still average. 6/10
Hell in a Cell WWE Championship Match
Brutal match, and I consider it to be one of my favourite Cell matches, as it wasn't a spot fest, and they stayed inside the Cell. 9/10
DVD Extras:
12 Bonus interviews - Pre-Cell ones with Undertaker, Heyman, Lesnar and Tim White
After match ones with Edge, Christian, Dawn Marie, Trish Stratus, Victoria & Rob Van Dam.
Tag Team Tournament highlights (Edge & Rey Mysterio vs. Ron Simmons & D-Von Dudley, Benoit & Angle vs. Los Guerreros)
Trick or Pete and the making of the commercial.
History of the Intercontinental Title.
Overall a decent PPV with good extras. I would actually rate this DVD 4 and a half stars. Better than the disappointing Unforgiven. Worth a buy.
What an epic event!
I saw this event and now since it is on video and DVD, it is better than ever! The great opening match was the Tag Team title match from RAW with Booker T & Goldust taking on the newly crowned champions, the so-called "king of the world" Chris Jericho and his partner, Christian. Chris Jericho's music says for him to break the walls down. He came close, he bounced of the middle rope and the turnbuckle pretty much exploded! The match continued even though they had to survive without the middle rope. The night went on with the Diva match of Torrie Wilson and Dawn Marie. Torrie's dad, Al, had been having a bit of a relationship with Dawn for the past month, so Torrie was hoping for revenge. Next, the high flying Rob Van Dam took on the 16-time World champion, Ric Flair. At Unforgiven, Flair hit RVD with a sledgehammer so pain would probably be in the air, not to mention a 5-star frog splash, for Flair. The cruiserweight championship match took place with the champ Jamie Noble and his girlfriend Nidia took on Tajiri. High-flying, fast action took place. The Intercontinental and World titles were unified next with the Intercontinental champ Kane facing the world champ Triple H and they had had a rivalry has big as my review! The intercontinental championship would no longer be defended after this match. Smackdown!'s tag team tournament came to a climax at No mercy with Angle and Benoit taking on Edge and Rey Mysterio for the new WWE tag team titles. In a huge match, Victoria challenged Trish Stratus for the Women's title in a hard battle. The HELL IN A CELL match took place with the Undertake taking on Brock Lesner for the WWE Championship in an almighty bloodbath! In the DVD is the history video of the intercontinental title, the advert for NO MERCY named "Trick or Pete" and the making of the advert, 12 interviews and highlights of the tag team tournament. This was an event beyond belief. Watch it or it will have No Mercy on your soul!
THE GREATEST HELL IN A CELL
Some decent matches on this PPV. The tag team (Edge/Rey vs Kurt/Chris) has an excellent fluid style which showcases the best of Smackdown (Smackdown's never been the same). Triple H vs Kane has great potential, but is ruined by outsiders which was typical Tripster of the time.
However, Brock Lesnar vs Undertaker, to me, reigns as one of the greatest HELL IN A CELLS of all time.
Bare in mind, Brock came as a heel, an unstoppable animal heel, who destroyed Hogan, The Rock, and then Taker. He had Paul Heyman as the irritating manager who got under your skin and created more heat for Brock. He became a face through respect, not a simple heel/face turn.
A perfect heel should be a powerhouse, laying waste to all in front of him. This is what WWE does not realise, because in 2009, things are different and desolate.
Undertaker and Brock bleed, sweat and tear into eachother, using many weapons, including a plaster cast. It stays in the cell which gives it a more claustrophobic feeling.
Smackdown truly ruled in 2002.
