Manufacturer's Description
The PXC 250 is a pair of closed, dynamic, supra-aural stereo mini headphones with NoiseGard™ active noise compensation. Due to their active and passive attenuation of ambient noise, they let you enjoy music even in noisy environments. The headphones are foldable and come with a convenient belt pouch, making them an ideal travel companion.
The are great for travel and outdoor use with mobile sources such as CD, MD or MP3 players and incorporate the innovative 'fold and flip registered design, which allows the ear cups to be turned through 90° and fold the headphones closed (headphones will lock in open and closed positions).
For transportation, the PXC 250 headphones come supplied with a soft belt pouch with extra pocket and an 1.8 m Kevlar-reinforced OFC copper cable with 3.5 mm jack plug, delivered with an adaptor to 6.3 mm stereo and 3.5 mm double mono (for airline audio).
These phones are ideal for use in coaches, trains etc., because the soft ring ear pads with improved fit and closed ear cups ensure excellent passive attenuation of ambient noise (–15 to –25 dB for frequencies above 1,200 Hz). They are also ideal for aircraft and other environments with engine noise: the switchable NoiseGard™ active noise compensation attenuates frequencies below 1,000 Hz by up to –15 dB. The impedance is optimised for use in aircraft.
The in-line NoiseGard™ power supply box (2 AAA size batteries) clips to the belt and can be rotated through 360°. The phones are suitable for all types of modern music with detailed sound reproduction and a slight emphasis on the bass. High-resolution sound comes courtesy of Sennheiser's ”Duofol” diaphragms with spiral embossing (reduces and spreads eigenforms), while the ultra-lightweight voice coils lead to high efficiency with portable players.
Also built into the PXC 250 is Sennheiser's patent pending ABD system (Adaptive Baffle Damping), plus a bass tube for powerful, punchy bass.
The unit is lightweight, (weighing only 65g without the cable), yet is rugged and durable, with its robust steel, metal-jointed headband and steel-reinforced headband ends. The ear cup connection has been specially tested for durability. The manufacturer's 2-year guarantee is the final assurance of quality and longevity.

Good sound but many drawbacks
I bought a set of these over a year ago and mainly for travelling - train every working day, flights a couple of times a year.
Noise cancelling is pretty good - when flying it is most noticably effective but also pretty good at background train noise - though less good at higher frequencies. Sound is also good and they are comfortable enough to wear for a couple of hours without problems.
Now the drawbacks:
1. The wire appears to be fitted with some sort of self-tangling mechanism which means that no matter how carefully you put them away the wires will be totally tangled when you get them out.
2. They pick up mobile phone noise on the train - I get an almost continuous "dat dat dat dat dit dit dat" noise in the background.
3. The battery pod is very big and heavy and also quite microphonic.
To summarise: - I'd recommend them to people for home use and for the occasional traveller, but for a frequent traveller on buses or trains I'd advise you keep searching.
Outstanding piece of kit
I recently bought these from amazon after I read a review in an IPOD magazine. I am glad I spent the money on them. I have hearing problems and did not want to ruin my hearing further listening to an IPOD with teh volume turned right up. When I have these in I can turn the volume right down and still hear music or books very well. I have used them walking on noisy streets, in planes and on long coach journeys and I have to say they worked perfectly in all situations. All my friends have tried them and now want to buy them. They fold up fairly flat and come in a case which also holds an IPOD. I would recommend anyone to buy these, especially from amazon as these are the cheapest place I found.
Excellent headphones/excellent noise cancellation
Wow! I bought these primarily to wear in a noisy open-plan office. Bose were too expensive so having ummed and arred I went for these. I looked at the more expensive PXC300 version but really couldn't see what the difference is, except the price of course. The noise cancellation is quite remarkable. Switch it on and all the background rumble of fans/photocopier/shredder/loud conversations and corridor meetings disappears. It is like sitting in a quiet room; concetration is once more possible. Then plug in to sound source (Sony MP3 and/or PC) and you can hear everything very clearly. Great bass response - though better on the PC than the MP3 player - I guess because the PC has more juice (MP3 is fine though).
The phones are small but fit snugly over the ears. The padding/quality is what you would expect from Sennheisser (excellent).
I was worried about interference but no problems so far. Incidentally the battery pack is about the size of a white board marker, or a tube of Rolos and not really the nuisance I thought it might be.
What a great piece of kit - the 'phones fold up (flat - the ear pieces swivel) and stow in the supplied zip pouch, which comes with jack adaptors (6mm to larger jack + double jack for some aircraft). Marvellous.
