Amazon.co.uk Review
It's never easy following up a multi-platinum success, yet with The Long Road, Canada's Nickelback seem sure to match the sales of the many-million-selling Silver Side Up. The formula remains pretty much the same. Nothing fancy, just radio-friendly grunge-rock lending an appropriately dramatic backing to the powerful and increasingly confident voice of Chad Kroeger, the undoubted star of this show. Aside from the fast and punchy opener "Flat on the Floor", the tough, staccato "Because of You" and the Oasis-recalling "Figured You Out", the band deal exclusively in soft-rock anthems (soft, that is, by 2003's pulverising standards), the strong vocal melodies encouraging stadium sing-alongs. Indeed, the closing "See You at the Show" seems deliberately designed for crowd interaction.
The only real change is in Kroeger's lyrical concerns. Where 2000's The State saw him suffering the frustrations and claustrophobic complexities of small town life, now he's tortured by a heavy touring schedule (the long road of the title, one presumes) that promotes destructive drug abuse and strains his attempted relationships to breaking point. That said, you can't help feeling the ruthlessly analytical Kroeger would turn a visit to the supermarket into a riot of hatred and self-recrimination. For fans of Silver Side Up, Nickelback have delivered the goods once more. --Dominic Wills
CD Description
Fourth album from Vancouver-based rockers Nickelback and the follow-up to their multi-platinum selling LP 'Silver Side Up', which was released in 2001. 'The Long Road' features their signature post-grunge sound, peppered with edgy, aggressive, heavy rock which is reminiscent of Pearl Jam, Staind and Creed. Includes the lead single 'Someday'.

Nickelback Are Back !
Nickelback are definetaly back with this raw, emotive, excellant rock album.
You will not be disappointed with this CD, it blows Silver Side Up away i think. This album is just amazing. Nickelback is back, they have probely produced one of the best albums of the year!
The song's to watch out for are "Someday","Throw Yourself Away",
"Do This Anymore" and "Feelin'g Way Too Damn Good". Nickelback's last single "How You Remind Me" was often know as a pop single, but this album is pure rock. This album is Nickelback at thier best and rock music at its best.
This album is easy to relate to because of the lyrics in the album. Chad sings about situation's that any person can relate to. The album is also easy to understand and has excellant guitar riffs.
The songs on The Long Road are adding to this amazing success story to date - From the infectiousness of the first single "Someday", to the dynamic "Feelin' Way Too Damn Good," to the striking chord progressions of "Do This Anymore" and the emotive lyrics of "Throw Yourself Away," the result is an album is bound to take Nickelback to new heights.
The Canadian rock band are bound to have a hit with this album and this album is better than Silver Side Up and The State by far.
This ablum is a must buy for any rock fans or Nickleback fans. The album brings a new side to Nickelback and all the hard work in the studio has paid off. With excellant guitar and emotive and loud lyrics this will definetly be a hit
This album has been a long time in the making but Nickelback are back and back with avengance! ;)
Another great album.
I first discovered Nickelback when they released Silver Side Up which, even after listening to The Long Road, is still my favourite album but this one is a close second.
You can see a definite pattern of growth in the bands music over the four albums and this is the next step. The lyrics are excellent again with Chad again giving more insight into his life and thoughts. The music also seems to be mellowing slightly (not that it's a bad thing, there's still plenty of head banging to be done!).
All in all it's a must for Nickelback fans because if you've liked everything they've done up to date, this album is not going to disappoint you. If you're new to the band, I'd still recommend it because the songs are great and I'm sure you'll want to hear more after listening to this album.
5 stars just ain't enough ...
I'm stunned. It's brilliant!
For those of you still unsure about buying this CD on the strength of their last effort (Silver Side Up) which, if we're honest, was ok at best, then be rest assured you will NOT be disappointed with 'The Long Road'. I'm sure you've all been
toe tapping away to their first single release 'Someday' but what about the rest? In a nutshell this album is pure rock and roll. From the kickass 'Because Of You' to the lyrically brilliant 'Figured You Out' there isn't one dud track on this album. They even make Elton John sound cool. The strength of these songs aren't just in their rhythmic arrangement but in the words sung by Chad Kroeger. The man's a lyrical genius: read the CD song sheet & I guarantee there'll be one or two songs in there you'll be nodding your head thinking 'yup ... been there man' and then to think the band have gone on to craft 11 superb songs (of which half could go on to be released as future singles) and you have the makings of an album deemed worthy of 5 stars. Hell, I'd give it 6 if it was at all physically possible. Other songs to watch out for include 'Do This Anymore','Should've Listened','Throw Yourself Away' and 'See You At The Show'. Do yourselves a favour folks and slot 'The Long Road' into your car stereo, crank it up real loud & sing like an idiot for 50 minutes ...
Like I said: brilliant.
