Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
First, the bad news; La Bella Mafia is still wall-to-wall smut, and there is nothing to suggest that Kimberley "Lil' Kim" Jones has enhanced her subterranean level of self-esteem. All the same, this third album is rather fine.
The 4' 11" emcee has generated many times her own height in column inches since the death of her mentor and sometime lover, the Notorious B.I.G.. Her breast enlargement has been a more fevered topic of debate than her rapping skills, which are generally considered negligible. Yet Kim has a fine rap voice, husky and resonant, and on La Bella Mafia a cornucopia of production talent furnishes her with beats that allow her to flaunt the most under-appreciated of her assets.
The best thing here is "Magic Stick", an infectious head-nodder built from a B.B. King loop that features 50 Cent, and is better than anything on his own album. Kim comes across like a super-libidinous Missy Elliott on "Shake Ya Bum Bum" and "The Jump Off", and "Hold It Now" even samples the same Beastie Boys track Elliott used on her Under Construction LP. Yet when Missy herself turns up, for the spectacular "(When Kim Say) Can You Hear Me Now?", Kim is far from overshadowed. --Angus Batey

One of Kim's best albums
Right, the first thing that some of you reading this review may want to consider is the fact that I actually think "HardCore" was Kim's weakest album. So, if you're looking for that gangsta that she brought on "HardCore" you might wanna check for either "Naked Truth" or "Ms. G.O.A.T" - her new mixtape.
This album has a great variety of club bangers, street hits and pop-friendly tunes. Songs like "The Jump Off" [produced by Timbaland] are representative of the more pop/club type songs on this album. Sometimes she delivers this genre brilliantly well (for example "The Magic Stick" featuring 50 Cent) and sometimes NOT so well [more notably "Shake Ya Bum Bum"]
However, Kim definitely delivers with this album. After her latest album Notorious K.I.M was critically panned, Kim came with a whole new sound once again, changing from the euro-pop style which she adopted on Notorious, to a much wider-spread album. If you're lookin for good gutta tracks on here, you will DEFINITELY wanna skip to "Hold It Now" and "Thug Luv". If you buy this album, chances are you will definitely enjoy at least half of it, as there seems to be a song for every audience on this great piece of work from the Queen Bee.
Oh dear, kims confused sex with sexy..again
To be truthful I'm only a fan of lil' kim for her unbelievable confidence in herself. She takes nothing off nobody whether it's jibes about her weight or her looks, she always bounces back bigger and badder. Unfortunately when it comes to rapping skills, singing voice and overall talent, lil' kim seriously lacks in any. The rare gems she has had are only due to collaborations. Can't Hold Us Down (Christina Aguilera), How Many Licks? (Sisqo), The Only One (Mary J Blige), Notorious (Notorious BIG). However, her song 'No Matter What They Say' wasn't too shabby. On this album, the jump off is the most catchy track (which she obviously realised by releasing it first). The problem with lil' kim is that Timbaland always gave Missy Elliot, Aaliyah, and Magoo his best works and left Kim with the rest. Therefore, the jump off is typical timbaland but still falls short of Gossip Folks or Get Your Freak On. Kim only makes it worse by making most of her lyrics out of brand names for the song (Black Barbie, dressed in bacardi. Gonna leave in somebody's ferrari) which just turns the song into an over-emphasised commercial. Thug Love is interestingly fast and could have been a collaboration with Ludacris, though for some reason Twista filled the role. Nothing else is really worth mentioning on the album. Yes Lil' Kim's filthy and swears, humps, and grinds to the beats so this ain't one to play for your mum. Out of all her albums I think this is the worst. Sorry Kim, maybe it's time to start writing some stuff yourself.
Lil' Kim...............MY IDOL
I first heard of Lil' Kim when I bought Puff Daddy's album "Forever" and I was stunned!!! Her voice was truely...a voice!! I then bought her second album "Notorious K.I.M" and I was again stunned!!! Her lyrics are fantastic as they just TELL THE TRUTH with no strings attached- something not many artists do these days!
"La Bella Mafia"...well what can I say? As soon as the intro played,I knew this would be a georgeous album and i was right!
"Hold it now feat. Havoc" has a great beat that makes ya just wanna get up n dance!!
EVERY SONG ON DIS ALBUM IS PERFECT!!!!!!!! There isn't a song that is weak and rubbish- they r all great!
So...if ya wanna buy a huuuuge album that is definitely worth tha doe, THEN BUY IT AND DON'T YA DARE HESITATE!!!!!!
