Product Description

Freedom Fighters is set in a world where the Soviet Union won the Cold War and a fierce conflict is beginning to unfold in the streets of America. Red Army troops are pouring across the borders of Mexico and Canada shortly after a nuclear missile is unleashed on Washington DC. Chaos sets in when breaking news informs Americans that their President has been killed and the Russians have invaded the country.

Players take on the role of a blue-collar worker who evolves into a charismatic and fearless freedom fighter obsessed with finding and freeing his brother, who has been taken hostage along with other New Yorkers by the Soviets. You must recruit and lead an army of urban guerillas to take on the Soviet threat in the streets of New York City. Freedom Fighters provides two layers of gameplay: a strategic turn-based mode that centres on base operations in an underground sewer system and an action mode that unfolds in the streets where fierce battles are won or lost and resources are captured.

Much, much better than I ever expected.5
I played this game from start to finish over the period of about one week and enjoyed every minute of it. If a sequel were made I would rush out and buy it without hesitation.

The game play is perfect and is controlled in such a way as to make the gun battles first rate and intensely involving. A much simpler control system for the squad than other similar squad based games. The number of squad members increases with each level, adding to the feeling of involvement and the climactic build up. The game has good replay appeal if just to go through the battles once more.

The graphics are similar to those used in Hitman 2 and are without fault.

I am really surprised that this game wasn't more successful than it was. It deserved much more attention than it got. I for one will be recommending it to all my friends.

Excellent game, now available at a knock down price.

Should be longer4
I bought the game due to the online reviews and the game site. It looked promising. I enjoyed playing single in the second most difficult level. Yet, it ended too quickly. After you learn the mechanics, it gets somewhat easy. The final level is too simple. I was expecting some real fight. And there are no big tanks (i only got to kill one). Soviets have lots of tanks...why didnt they use them?
This game made me play it like Max Payne, trying to see what was next. But MP was a longer sensation due to its story.
So i give it 4 stars. Halo would get 5.

One excellent shooter !4
I read the reviews of this game on the internet and thought this is well worth buying. I can now only comment after playing the first few missions, and can say it is a really good game. Your caracter is a plumber who has to fight off the Russian invasion of New york from a third person perspective view. Like conflict desert storm, you get to command some troops to aid you in your fight. Major difference to the two titles are that Freedom fighters has a more arcady feel to it. But don't let that put you off. The one web site found the game repetative, something I can't disagree more with. You get killed, well, try something different and use some tactics this time round. Place a soldier next to a wall, try getting to higher ground, and before you know it you have those ruskies for lunch. It comes down to trial and error and certainly forces you to have your thinking cap on. This is no brainless blast'em up ! Your enemy is really good at fighting back, and you will have to put in some effort to dislodge them. The AI of both friend and foe are generally really good, they defend and attack equally well and EA can be proud of their handy work.

Only negative points I can mention, is the fact that when you shoot, you have a over the shoulder perspective and it looks and feels akward when shooting. When a target is running about you are defenceless as you frantcially try to catch up with your target who is pumping you full of rounds. It took me a while to get used to it. Some times the AI isn't so good, both from your own men, to the enemy who will sometimes run right past you and hide behind a wall. It is easy to then go up to him and shoot him as if I was invicible.

I would highly recomend this game and I had loads of fun so far. Just hoping my wife will give me some playing time so that New York can be free again.
