Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Norah Jones Live in New Orleans provides further reasons why many are claiming that she is the new Nina Simone. In the space of a few months her critically acclaimed debut album Come Away with Me sold millions of copies worldwide, spurred on by her phenomenal success at the 45th Annual Grammy Awards and word-of-mouth recommendations.

Recorded in August 2002 at the House of Blues in New Orleans, the concert provides an intimate, if somewhat brief showcase of a performer on the verge of the big time. Accompanied by "Her Very Handsome Band" Norah swiftly performs the favourites from the album ("Don't Know Why" and "Lonestar") as well as other material such as "Something is Calling You" and "Bessie Smith".

While many may associate Jones's music with either leisurely moments slumbering in coffee lounges, or as the soundtrack to suburban dinner parties, as the catcalls and screams between songs suggest, her music (and sex appeal) is stimulating the middle classes in previously unimaginable ways. As she moves into stadium concert performer league, perhaps this DVD will be the only opportunity for many to witness the "queen of easy-listening" in a truly intimate and live setting.

On The DVD: Norah Jones Live in New Orleans includes a rich Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround soundtrack, which successfully reproduces Jones's stunning vocals. While the picture quality is glossy and colourful, the visual material is limited due to the handful of cameras recording the show. Also included is the promo for the track "Come Away with Me". --John Galilee

good concert DVD - lesser known songs make it a buy !!4
This is a good DVD basically of Norah sitting behind her piano / Wurlitzer playing a selection of songs mainly from the album Come Away With Me. (The band consists of guitar, bass and drums)

I disagree with some of the other reviewers that the video production is boring. I personally prefer to watch how the musicians are playing their instruments rather than watch a blinding laser show and a load of strange camera angles and colours. This concert is simply 4 musicians on a small stage and the video production reflects the honesty of the performance.

Some of the performances of songs off Come Away With Me are pretty average in my opinion, but the real gems on this DVD are the songs that some fans who discovered Norah through her last album might not have, in particular her version of Bessie Smith, the bluesy Comes Love and the final song, Tennessee Waltz.

A good buy.

Delightful, Relaxing Witty Performance4
A beautifully crafted performance of the irreplacable Norah Jones, a very basic set on stage, but the performance and wittiness of Ms Jones herself more than makes up for that. Her vocals sharp and clear, she engages with the crowd as naturally as you would your closest friends...the tracks include all the important ones from "come away with me". There is also a bonus encore track of the concert, as well as the full video for the single "come away with me". It's a performance you want to hear and watch over and over and you can't help relax with that inevitable smile engaging in the music...the only reason I don't give this five stars is because of some of the cinematography, it isn't the best, however you do soon forget the little flaws. You won't be disappointed...buy it!! Enjoy it!!!

A mesmerising, subtle performance..5
I have been a huge fan of Norah Jones ever since she launched her career with her glorious first album. This DVD is no less brilliant, if not more so.. Sure, the visual production isn't fantastic but that's not the point! You get an intimate view of Norah at her quietly-confident, yet oddly self-conscious best.. She interacts sincerely with her band and the audience, but for the most part she in completely engrossed in her performance.

In terms of her music I find this performance even better than the album, with some other great songs thrown in for good measure. Her rendition of Joni Mitchell's 'Nothing can be done' is fantastic! In my opinion, dare I say it, better than the original..

If you like Norah's music and want to see her in a live performance, you will not be disappointed by this DVD.
