I had this on vinyl, then on CD pretty much as soon as it was available but I could never obtain on CD the instrumental version of Running with the Night which was available in the 80's on the flip side of a 12" single.

But it is here and sounds better than ever.

Sixteen quid is not cheap but you have most of the great man's classics here.

This man's epitaph should read 'Lionel Ritchie - Songwriter Extraodinaire' - for he is just that.

A classic remastered
First of it has to be said that the original album of 8 tracks was brilliant. So good in fact that 5 of them were hit singles and the album spent 3 years on the album chart. Its jam packed with brilliant songs that you still hear on the radio today. As this is a 2 disc deluxe edition there is far more than what was on offer when this was first released back in 1983. Disc 1 has the LP and additional 12" vinyl remixes of 'All night long' and 'Running with the night'. Disc 2 is essentially a work in progress. It shows what the songs were like during early recording sessions. In the main this disc is not going to be listened to much as it is just unfinished versions of the songs that appear on disc 1. Nevertheless it does contains 3 gems. 'Tell me', 'Can't find love' and 'Aint no sayin no' sound so good that you'll be wishing they had been finished. Despite this I feel that perhaps more different versions of the original 8 songs would of been better, such as live performances and instrumentals. Overall well worth a buy just for the original LP, the additional tracks are a bonus.
