More Superb Experimentalism from Amon Tobin
More tunes from the Ninja Tune archive that really show off what these boys are about. This EP comes in two parts really, one being the remixes, the other collaborations (shock.)
First up are the collaborations. The opening track, written with Kid Koala, reminiscent of much of Amon's jazz breaks from the past. 'Ten Piece Metric Wrench Set,' with Steinski, is a must for any fan of Amon Tobin's darker moments. The remixes, unlike many, offer a genuinely different interpretation of the original tune, my particular favourite is the 'Dancehall Devastation Mix' which would be at home in any self respecting DJ's set.
All in all a fine listen, although obviously NOT a full length offering.
Music
I like this a lot. It has a nice variety of moods captured in pleasant chilled laidback sounds to dark and broody beats. As always Amon Tobin captures you from the first listen.
I think the music has benefitted from collaborating with other artists, providing just a little bit more to keep you hooked, which may keep this in the frequently listened to category rather than only when you're in the mood.
The Bonobo collaboration is especially good as is the blip blop verbal remix.
