Amazon.co.uk Review
The original Driver was one of the most popular and original driving games on the PSone and very much helped to pave the way for Grand Theft Auto III and others. The sequel, however, was a massive disappointment and seemed to prove that the Driver formula could only ever work again on the next generation of consoles.
Now finally Driver 3 (or DRIV3R as it insists on calling itself) is here, and although it's not the disaster that the last game was it's still a considerable disappointment. As you would expect from developers Reflections, who also did Stuntman and the original Destruction Derby, the car handling and physics are excellent--perhaps some of the best ever seen. However, the artificial intelligence of your opponent drivers is almost laughably poor and the incredibly detailed graphics, which look so good in the screenshots, come at the expensive of some disappointingly short draw distances, with buildings and backgrounds suddenly popping up as if out of nowhere.
The game itself is now very much influenced by Grand Theft Auto and you can get out of your car and hijack other vehicles. DRIV3R is still predominantly mission-based, though, and unfortunately the difficulty curve is still as frustratingly uneven as ever with some missions seemingly almost superhumanly hard.
If you're a fan of the series then DRIV3R probably won't disappoint too much, but newcomers to the series may find this has rather more problems than you'd expect from such a heavily hyped title.--David Jenkins
Manufacturer's Description
DRIV3R is an action-packed driving adventure game that stays true to its roots, incorporating the cinematic gameplay and gritty street crime of its predecessors with ground-breaking graphics and three mammoth, wide-open city environments: Miami, Nice, and Istanbul.Featuring Hollywood-caliber production values--with voice actors including Michael Madsen, Ving Rhames, Mickey Rourke and Michelle Rodriguez--and a gripping, narrative story line, DRIV3R casts players once again as undercover cop Tanner who, alongside his partner Tobias, must infiltrate a global car theft ring, an assignment that leads to tire-squealing chases and fierce on-foot firefights while tailing gangsters, chasing witnesses, stealing cars and unloading massive clips of ammo to bring the criminals to justice.

DRIV3R
When you first play it, it doesn't seem so bad. Then it gets bad. Missions seem hard, gameplay is limited. You really do expect it to be a little like GTA. But, of course, Reflections are enemies with Rockstar when it comes to free roaming, shooting, driving games. Then, the more you play it and practice, the better it gets. There is nothing like being in a high speed pursuit, then pit maneuvering a trafiic car and watch the cops plough into it, causing mass destruction. It's absolutly great.
Then there's the downside. Driver, as a series, has been commonly picked on for many reasons. First is that they say they're trying to be too much like GTA. Then there's the stupid cops, the way Tanner (the main character) walks, the fact that in Driver 2 he couldn't shoot and, in DRIV3R, the cars explode into three peices. Despite these drawbacks, it is in fact increadable detailed. Every square inch of each three progressingly huge cities has been taken into care and consideration. Every day you discover something new. Like a secret car, odd buildings, buildings you can enter, interesting alleyways and shortcuts, jumps, hidden characters, glitches, and secret areas. Overall it is quite good. Like a little brother of the immensely huge GTA.
Good
This game is OK but it is very hard in the missions this could be because i don't play a lot of gaming but i don't think that is the case. I enjoyed this game for about one day but then i got bored you steal the cars and kill the people but then there is nothing left just to unleash hell and let the police chase you. I have to say i wouldn't buy this game it isn't the best if you're looking for something similar but much much better then go for just cause it is probably one of the best games i own.
Well Driv3r isnt a thumbs up from me but it is my opinion. You may want it,but i guarantee you will get bored of this game after you have gone on the motorbikes, stolen boats, gone on the ferry , killed people, stolen lorries and busses, done the massive jump gap on the bikes and run out of energy swimming, you will get bored of this game and put it in the bottom of your pile of games and leave it for days, months or even years.
Brown and sticky, or not Marmite? Love it or hate it, its up to you
You only need to look at the number of reviews on here to see how controversial this game is. I mean some people loved it and some people hated it.
First things first, it WAS a massive disappointment. Glitches, bad shooting, Tanner walking like he'd had a crash and the gearstick had been rammed up his ar.. yeah. Many people found it boring and yes, how many times did we all swear like troopers at the last misson? Or any other mission where 1 inch of drift causes you to fail the chase, eh?
HOWEVERRRRRR... Driv3r (yes we all hate that name) is not a little bit like Marmite (brown and sticky...like a stick) where you love it or would like to incinerate it after having bitten it to death. It's a game where you feel both of these at the same time. Take me for example; I played both Driver's 1 & 2 and, despite their bad parts, loved them. The storylines were actually well thought-out and cut, unlike many of the mass produced run-outs you get today, and if you failed a mission it was not down to the bad gaming, it was you being a bad Driver. Was I the only one who loved Driver2 ? Probably.
Anyways, at least find a website or friend who will give you Driv3r (obviously from a website will make you pay but hey). TRY it. Running over randomers is great, with the satisfying "Hey..*BUMP*". Of course it is no way near GTA's 3,4,or 5 but what is better is the car chases and police AI. The undercover mode is fun/time consuming and the cutscenes are pretty damn good. Oh and don't ask me if Tanner lives or dies. I used to care. I just don't anymore.
It can be fun if you give it a chance. the cities are pretty damn huge, for a PS2 game and the damage is pretty good too. Even if its only worth 5 quid, BUY it and keep it. It needs to dearly be loved as Parallel lines just destroyed any chance of the Driver series coming out again.
Mind you, iv added this like 2 years later so you probably wont even read it anyways. Ta if you do though ;)
