Synopsis
The prolific and enduring career of British pop star Elton John has taken many twist and turns, but he's always remained a colorful, flamboyant performer the whole way through. ONE NIGHT ONLY, filmed at his two sold-out shows at New York's Madison Square Garden in 2000, has John returning to many of his early classics such as "Bennie and the Jets," "Tiny Dancer," "Your Song," and "Rocket Man." John is joined by a diverse array of guest performers, including Kiki Dee, Mary J. Blige, Bryan Adams, Anastacia, Ronan Keating, and Billy Joel.

Nearly Perfect Show!
This is how a concert should be recorded! Twenty seven hit songs areremixed (one of the best live recordings yet – on par with the Bee Gees“One Night Only”). Opening with the full length version of “Funeral For AFriend”, you can feel and hear the heavy bass and soaring synthesizersthat start the show. It never lets up with hit after hit. Elton peppershis show with guest appearances (Billy Joel at his best), Mary J. Blige(sings perfectly, but seems nervous), Ronan Keating (wonderful andsmacking of confidence), Bryan Adams (excellent), Anastacia (vibrant) andKiki Dee (what a way to end the show – with a classic duet). One can seefrom the list that the emphasis is on the seventies hits and that’s justfine. The light show is brilliantly spot-on and every member of the bandseems like a star. The direction works extremely well, except (and this isa big complaint), there are too many cuts to audience members. It isdistracting to see close ups of fans dancing and singing. I am sure theintent was to personalize the show, but it just becomes annoying. I don’twatch other people when I go to a show. However, this is the only thing Ican find less than perfect about Elton John’s performance. It is the soundthat matters and this is simply the best live recording to date. The bonusextra video of Robert Downing, Jr. singing “I Want Love” is brilliant.
a must have for any EJ fan!!
Great Greatest Hits dvd- all the top tunes are here and some fantastic duets with Bryan Adams, Anastacia , Ronan Keating etc. Great piano jamming which is what we've become accustomed to from Sir Elton and some brilliant percussion and guitar playing. In widescreen.
Theres a couple of bonus videos at the end which are from Songs from the West Coast album. Not in widescreen.
Surround (DTS and DD 5.1) mixes are pretty atmospheric although I just left it in stereo.
Captain Fantastic!
This is a concert that held place in Madison Square Garden New York. Elton sings his best songs ever in a truly amazing concert. The sound is perfect, the video is excellent and you feel like you're in the first row. I couldn't stop watching it from the start till the end. This DVD is a must for anyone who loves great music and one of the best concert DVDs I've ever seen.
