Innovative U.K. electronica outfit Nightmares on Wax contributes an excellent disc to the Late Night Tales series, offering a fine mix set that keeps with the funky, downtempo vibe for which the group is known. Elements of jazz, soul, hip-hop, reggae, and electronica rear their heads here on tunes as ostensibly different as Quincy Jones's "Listen (What Is It)" to King Kooba's spacey "California Suite" to Dusty Springfield's groove-driven "Listen". Yet N.O.W.'s sequencing andseamless transitions make this a smooth, satisfying, and eminently listenable experience.

Top Drawer Music Selection
The 'another late night' series spawns into Late Night Tales and what a brilliant mix to aid the transition.
Having listened to a few tracks by Nightmares on Wax and based on the pure quality of previous releases in this series I bought this album without listening to it. But as soon as I set it off playing I knew I had made an excellent purchase and this was going to be one funky outing.
Keeping to the fantastic eclectic formula that this series has produced so far, NOW has produced a beauty here. Starting off with the cool midnight marauders NOW manages to melt the tracks together so well you dont notice one track finishing and the other starting.
There are so many good tracks on this album but the highlights for me would be 'Quincy Jones - Listen' and 'Dusty Springfield - Spooky'
I would recommend this album to all late night chillers and fans of NOW alike. This is one CD I will be playing for a long time to come.
Not Another Late Night. Time For A LateNightTale
Nightmares On Wax aka George Evelyn is an extremely talented individual. His personal productions Car Boot Soul and Smokers Delight are very essential downtempo but funky, laid-back albums. His DJ Kicks compilation, which blends hip-hop, jazz, breakbeat and chill-out grooves is the perfect companion for late night chilling. The latest instalment of the Late Night series provides an even better, more relaxing, subtle yet funkier alternative to DJ Kicks. It is truly impressive. How else can I describe the beautiful music contained in this collection? Filled with downtempo or mid-tempo Funk, Soul, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Dub, Reggae, Breaks, Electro elements throughout this mix, this is THE ultimate album to hit your stereo, while chilling with your friends.
From the chilled-out NOW remix of "Gravy Train" to the amazingly funky "Sneakin In The Back", from the dub-like "Show Me Some Love" to the spaced-out "California Suite", from the ideal-for-smoking "Action Tape 1" to the groovy "Spooky", from the full-on-beat "Bout That Time" to the sweet-vocal "Having Your Fun" you cannot miss for buying this album. And the cover version of Cymande's "Brothers On The Side Dub" is excellent.
The mixing is probably the best in the Late Night series with every tune effortlessly blended with each other, offering the smoothest transitions. And with a track selection almost impeccable this latest instalment is as good as (if not better) than Rae & Christian's Another Late Night (my personal favourite). I would strongly suggest that you start collecting the Late Night series if you are thinking about it, and if you have already then there is no doubt that you will buy this one. I already can't wait for dub-reggae masters Sly & Robbie's next Late Night release.
How funky do you wanna try and get, bet you can't beat this!
Having previously bought most of the Another Late Night and Back to Mine compilations it didn't take much convincing to invest in this little Late Night Tales / Nightmares on Wax edition. I have to say that it is quite simply incredible. Funky, Smooth, Uptempo...whatever. All i can offer is that I caught myself thumping my feet to it in the office, cocking my head like a chicken and drumming the desk constantly throughout. Beware it may take you too!!! Fantasic, keep em comin guys!
