Great Driving but some huge errors.
This is a very, very good game. The driving on this is like none other, going through the San marino chicane is amazing and twisting and turning through monte carlo is the best challenge ever on a racing game. The choice and variation of cars is also superb with cars from four seasons with every f1 team. You really get the feel of f1 which is amazing. The selection of views is also very good from standard driving view to actual f1 view with steering wheel and mirrors in front is brilliant. I could go on about the brilliance of driving an f1 car around every track but as with any other EA game it could be better than it is and you just feel they don't put any effort at all into their game design.
The first problem is with the career mode. You can't select how many laps you want to do and 8 isn't enough. You need at least 16 to get intot he rythm of a race and really drive it. Secondly the easy setting is stupid. What happens is on every corner your car goes straight into the back of the one in front because it's so slow. They could have made cornering worse or braking, overtaking or driving in general but they decided to give it so little speed that you just run into the back of it. The yellow flag systemis also totally unrealistic. There seem to be crashes all the time and yellow flag situations appear on every lap.
Having said that if you want a good, challenging racing game and are a fan of f1 buy this but if you are easily frustrated, dont!
Formula 1 Career Challenge (Xbox version)
The F1 version of ToCA Race driver arrives and what a great game.
Firstly you will notice the different presentation which personally i like. As you start your first quick race, you get a season to pick from (99-2002), the only thing that dissapoints me here is the fact you cannot have the Ferrari's from all 4 years race each other.
The detail is amazing though, every car recreated with amazing detail. Prost, Arrows and Toyota all have their respective entry/exit years and unlike F2002 the toyota dont feel like a prost with different Livery. In the circuits, every change between the years has been added, you will see a difference between Monza 2000 and Monza 2001 for example. Another amazing detail is the fact that arrows do not enter certain races in the 2002 season even in quick race mode (unless u pick them of course).
The carrer mode is exceptional, when you have passed the test for ur super licence, you get a choice of 3 drives, then you progress from here, slowley building ur reputation. All the races are here (for example, USA is not in 1999 season) and this adds depth. The thing that may suprise some players is that if you have a poor car (ie your first season) unless retirements you will not win races, in previous f1 games you could win the title with any car, now the car makes a difference.
Overall the game is fantastic, a must for f1 fans, however for the casual racer it will take some getting used to.
good but not great.
The first thing i noticed about this game is its lack of control, the cars slide about off the road making it very hard to control. However if you stick with it you can gain a lot of enjoyment from this game.
The 4 seasons idea is very good, alot better than the usual 1 season. Although it finishes on last season (02) so the new rules of formula 1 don't come in to it such as one shot qualifying.
Even with these drawbacks it is still well worthwhile getting if you are an F1 fan. However if you have a PC capable of running GP4 then i would buy that instead.
