Amazon.co.uk Review
Second Verse is music on the back (as opposed to the good) foot--probably because so much good and bad has happened around So Solid since their previous album (They Don't Know). Dedicating a track to the murdered schoolboy Damilola Taylor is a well-meaning but too convenient way to attempt to clear themselves of acts of violence and crime (including convictions for gun possession and violent assault).
Unfortunately, on Second Verse, the public pressure has led them to play safe. Gone are the ugly beats, the off-key tempos and sheer risk-taking of early work such as "Woah". They've opted for the (superficially) easier life of R&B and hip-hop like so many of their garage forebears (Craig David, Mis-Teeq, et al). This is best illustrated on the single "Broken Silence", with its nod to Tupac, or Colder with its child-sung chorus. The imitation doesn't stop there: "So Grimey" takes on the Neptunes (and can only lose), "Six O' Clock" comes off like an unpractised Roots Manuva, "Angry Beats" leans heavily on US rapper Scarface and "Kaish's Theme" is Bone thugs-n-(little)-harmony. The redeeming track is "Bou Bas" (and its remix)--a wild, heavy, chanted anthem that goes completely off the dial. If only there were more cuts like this. Under so much pressure So Solid have become severely watered down. --Jake Barnes
CD Description
After a slew of solo releases from various members, the So Solid Crew re-group to release the follow up the their hugely successful debut album 'They Don't Know'. The album sees the return of the tight UK garage production, raw MCing, and sweet soulful vocals that the group have become known for. The single 'Broken Silence' is also included.

second verse
second verse isn't what i expected but i am growing to it. i new the crew were going for a new sound but this wasnt what i had thought it would be. i was a bit dissapointed not to hear some proper uk garage tracks like i have grown to expect from so solid instead of a lot of american rap style ones. also whats happened to the Twins and Tiger S? theres the odd track feat lisa and thug angel but it deff lacks female vocals througout. i am starting to feel this album more but i would like the 3rd album to go back to the old style so solid crew. stick to your own vibes peeps, don't follow the crowd.
Don't knock it
Im sure that you will have read the magazines and papers that have been saying this album isn't up to it! BUT IT IS.
After the success of 'they don't know' they had alot to live up to, and in my opinion so far so good. Also the release of romeos, lisa maffias, JDs and Asher D's albums have helped my opinion.
This album isn't quite as.. how can i put it.. 'street' as you may think.
The tracks have instruments like flutes and pianos in them, but they are good.
Here are my ratings out of 10 for each track:
1. intro 6/10
2. 1st verse 7/10
3. so solid (angry beat) 7/10
4. so grimy 9/10
5. six 'o' clock 9/10
6. more 9/10
7. how it is 9/10
8. 2nd verse 8/10
9. colder 10/10 ..AWESOME TUNE..
10. bou bas (+ remix) 9/10
11. leave us alone 8/10
12. money maker (g-man) 8/10
13. thug angel's (initiation) 6.5/10
14. ghetto anthem 7/10
15. broken silence 8.5/10
16. no love 9/10
17. outro 8/10

2ND VERSE URGES FANS REQUEST FOR A 3RD VERSE
I think is album is OFF THE HOOK! It is true to themselves and showcases some the so far unseen talent!
"Broken Silence" is track containing some DEEP and CONSCIOUS lyrics!
"Angry Beats" is highly Anthem Material! (according to my sources, it should be the nex single)
"No Love" is another Deep and Conscious song, dedicated to the truly missed Damilola Taylor
"First Verse" is jus...ah...amazing! ONE lyric, ONE verse for OVER FOUR MINUTES!
This is the s**t
