One of the funniest programmes to have screened on British TV in recent years. The DVD will have all episodes from the series as well as a load of special unseen extras on a double disc DVD.

LEONARD DE TOMPKINSON
I love this dvd, i think it is so funny especially watching it with the commentry on, listening to peter kay speak about how he came up with ideas etc, i watch it all the time!
After reading the sound of laughter you realise most of the characters relate to people Peter has come across in his life..i think it's great!:D
very very poor peter kay what are you doing As bad as most american comedy
this i think has to be the worst comedy i have ever seen the only thing that would make it worse as if it had pipped laughter
i get more laughs watching news at 10 then this crap
what has comedy come to
think ill have to make a comedy about me having my breakfast and then i may become the best comedean in the world
ill have to now find some unfortunate person to buy it off me
and reply to other comment dont rent with proper dvd because the proper dvds worse then the special if your unlucky you may find the full box set in the nearest skip
You cant make 99's with Crunchies!
Peter Kay's first mainstream apperance on UK television courtesy of Channel 4 was a half hour pilot called 'The Services'. (now lets not quibble about the ITV drama 'Driven to Distraction' in 1997, part of the 'New Voices' comedy series, in which he played the getaway driver), This was the showcase series that would launch this man to the public audience. 6 Episodes, filmed in a documentary style, about working class/average people in and around the bolton area.
Most of the characters are drawn from Peters own working experiences throughout his early working life (Bingo hall assistant,DJ,Yellowcoat at the MEN arena) and the first episode 'In The Club' was of course, the inspiration for the hugely succesful 'Phoenix Nights'.
If you like Peter Kay and have not seen this but are reading this recommendation,Read his autobiography 'The Sound of Laughter'. If you have seen this and reading this recommendation, but did not really enjoy this series... read his autobiography. Most of the situations/characters of the series are expanded on and a few other situations are revealed. (he worked as a cinema usher and a petrol forecourt attendant for Esso)
Back to the DVD. 2 Discs. 1st Disc all 6 episodes from 'That Peter Kay Thing' Peter Kay Commentary optional, No Subtitles.
Disc 2. Original pilot episode 'The Services' Alternative, Extended & Deleted Scenes. Channel 4 Trailers.
The only episodes I was personally disappointed with were 'Leonard' and 'Lonely at the Top', that being said, they are worth watching but it will probably be a while before you watched them again.
Personal Highlight? Mr Softee Top at the Bolton Fair when he has breakdown in his Ice Cream van.
Good Stuff.
