hard to beat wrestlemania hey!4
March 30th,2003,54,000 fans in attendance and a match card to have the senses tingling, yes wrestlemania had hype,it had quality on paper and did it deliver?,yes it did and then some.
The night kicked off with the cruiserweight championship match, the champ matt hardy with an annoying shannon moore by his side against rey mysterio. The match was solid but not the greatest match in this division,it should have lasted a bit longer but in saying that the speed of the match meant that a moment wasnt wasted,a fine opener on the balance of things then.
On with the show then,it may seem strange to see the undertaker so low on the bill but that did not dilute the quality of the match and in particular the undertakers performance, this was a handicap match ,the undertaker vs A-train and the big show, that was over 800 pounds in weight against the taker,i thought this match was good,A-train is a better wrestler than some would have you believe and i was really impressed with the taker who was firing in some submission moves and taking his rivals down to the mat for some torture, this was very pleasing and in the end the result was fair,a fine match and by no means part of the dreaded term 'filler'.
Next up was the ladies title,a triple threat match, the champ victoria who had stevie richards in her corner was up against trish and jazz. This was a good match, plenty of near falls, end to end stuff, some high energy and risk moves and a good outcome,a very good ladies match in fact, there i said it.
Another triple threat match followed and this time for the tag team title, the champs team angle which featured charlie haas and shelton benjamin were pitted against los guererros and chris benoit and rhyno, this match didnt last long either and team angle looked a little out of their depth at times, the commentator jim ross tried to disguise it by saying they were nervous, perhaps they were but it didnt help the match, the match didnt flow as well as 16th century wine if im to make comparisons, all in all it was a bit cluttered in places and the outcome was pleasing and a little clever but not the greatest match of the night by a deafening shout.
Next up was a match so good that i will speak of it for years to come,a match that looked great on paper, had a good build up too it,months of build up and it lead to this, shawn michaels vs chris jericho, jericho admitting as a lad he worshipped michaels and copied alot of michaels styles and moves, this match was surely bound to fall flat on its face thenn!,it most certainly didnt,it gave way to one of the great wrestlemania matches.
The match was filled with two very competetive men,men who wouldnt let anything go,a match with acres of pace, movement and energy, wrestling was very much displayed here in its purest form, but something had to give and in the end mutual respect was forged but in the blink of an eye it was lost after an act of treason and the feud would march on,stunning.
Next up was a match that everyone was burning to see,a match 20 years in the making, hulk hogan vs vince mcmahon, now it seems that hogan and vince had made up over the years, this match was a chance to reignite the hatred that was certainly once there and hype this match up to a stage that could blind us,hogan in 1993 had been part of the states charge against mcmahon laying down testimony and of course his departure for wcw hadnt helped heal wounds, this match was never gonna be pretty and it wasnt but it was very gratifying, hogan and vince punched the heck out of each other and both lost blood and vince doing legdrop of top of ladder onto hogan who was lying lifeless on announce table was something iconic indeed,in the end neither man was gonna lie down and take defeat so it took something more that,a great match and well done to vince who did his part in this very well.
Two matches left, yes two and the quality was rising yet again, next up was a good old fashioned feud match with pride as the prize, the rock vs stone cold steve austin, the rock at this juncture had lost some of his fans due to his film roles and turning his back on the wwe somewhat but the rock put on one of his finest performances here, stone cold played his part as well, and in the end there was little between the two men,a great match packed with all that makes a match great, not their best match i suppose, but hard to forget.
The main event was served next, brock lesnar coming up against the champ kurt angle, both men were trained as youths to a very high standard of mat wrestling and it showed although angle certainly had the pace factor on his rival but this was very much toe to toe stuff, little to seperate each man, some great submission moves on display and some belting moves of power and drive, one man could win and the loser congratulated him, brought back memories of hogan and the warrior in wrestlemania 6 in that respect,a fitting end to a great event and limp bizkit rocked the crowd with two tracks performed live, all in all a corking event, long live wrestlemania!

COULD BE THE GREATEST OF THE MODERN WWE MANIAS5
54,087 fans jammed Seattle's SAFECO Field on March 30, 2003, for certainly one of the greatest WWE productions that I, personally, have ever seen. Now I'm not going to get into any intricate comparison on what is THE greatest WrestleMania of all time, but I will say that this was a beautifully crafted, technical and nostalgic event. Let's get to the action, shall we?

Cruiserweight Championship Matt Hardy vs. Rey Mysterio

A fast-paced kick-off to this event; great opener. Mysterio displayed his always amazing aerial prowess, and Hardy showed us why he is one of the more valuable players in the WWE. Time didn't effect this one for me as there was much more to come. 6.5/10

The Undertaker vs. Big Show & A-Train

Will Undertaker's unprecedented WrestleMania streak FINALLY be broken by the terrifying duo of the new Natural Disasters?? (note the sarcasim)Surprisingly not that bad a match if you consider some of the talent involved here. I don't like Limp Bizkit that much, but they complimented Taker's entrance quite nicely here. 5/10

Women's Championship Victoria vs. Jazz vs. Trish Stratus

This match just shows that the Women's division is getting better and better each year. Great action in this match; I'm going to go out on a limb and call this the best women's match of all-time (no bullsh*t) Great performance by all involved, even Steven Richards who unfortunately will never get anywhere by wearing those little pink tights (haha) 6.5/10

WWE Tag Team Championship Team Angle vs. Los Guerreros vs. Chris Benoit & Rhyno

Why, oh why did Benoit get shafted into midcard hell on the biggest card of the year? The same goes for Guerrero, but he and Chavo work well as a tag-team. Anyways, these three teams were great as always; I'm really impressed at how much Team Angle has evolved recently. I had no problems with this match, except for the amount of time that was given. Great contest nonetheless. 7/10

Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho

What can I say about this match other than it was just beautiful. Some may criticize it's pace, but it built-up well over time, and actually told a story. The selling was very believable, and I could almost feel Jericho's ongoing urge to show and prove he is better than his childhood hero. Everything was great about this contest, from the background story to the moves to even the lighting used. The definate show-stealer here. Simply Amazing. 9.5/10

World Heavyweight Championship Triple H vs. Booker T

Now this one was quite a shocker to me. Definately Triple H's best perfomance in 2003. Booker was great as usual. I loved how the Harlem Hangover and Indian Deathlock were pulled out. Flair was hilarious as usual, and King was at his comedic best in this one. Great match that represented Raw quite nicely. 7.5/10

"20 Years in The Making" - Street Fight Vince McMahon vs. Hulk Hogan

The most-billed match on the card without a doubt. I didn't expect much from this, but it was just what it needed to be. A shocking return (although i wish they hadn't used HIM on later television) and a great bump made this worth it. Ohh, and I can't forget Vince's sick, bloody impression when he looks over the ring apron...that was pure GENIUS. Haha the finger he gave Hogan after the match was funny as well. A brutal, bloody and barbaric street fight. 8/10

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Rock

This match was no where near as good as their match at X-Seven, but I will stop comparing and say that it added to this unbelievable card very well. Some funny moments here, from the new and improved HEEL Rock (yea) and the ending was very well-done and came as a shock to the crowd. You can always expect a great match from these two. 7.5/10

WWE Championship Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar

Well, here it is, a wrestling purist's dream. Olympic Champion vs. NCAA Champion. Two of WWE's best going at it for the richest prize in the game. This match was great, especially considering how Kurt Angle was risking paralysis by competing; he is one of the most gutsy, professional and inspirational wrestlers ever, no doubt about it. I also appreciate the fact that the rookie Lesnar continued the match in a concussed state after somewhat of a blown spot that made yours truly CRINGE. As a matter of fact, I was cringing during the entire match. So Angle walks in risking his health, and Brock leaves almost just as bad - how ironic is that? Great main event to end of the show! 8.5/10

Overall, WrestleMania XIX was wonderful and should be considered one of the greatest of all-time (comes close with X-Seven) The extras weren't anything special but damnit why couldn't John Cena spit his freestyle on the actual show rather than on Heat which I missed? Oh well, anyways, WrestleMania XIX is a sick event that culminated a year of hard work and dedication. Recommended to everyone, even if you don't follow wrestling.

Off the top rope5
This is a superb WWE DVD. Firstly, the event itself is so strong as it hosts tonnes of classic bouts. For example, Hogan vs. Vince is a brillant all-out bloody brawl, Steve Austin vs. The Rock marks the end of an era which ties up loose ends so well and is thrilling, and the last card on the match is one of the best atheltic bouts WWE have ever put on, even if it does lack some heat. The undercard is also very strong featuring greatness such as Mysterio vs. Hardy (too short but still great) and Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels. The DVD extras are very strong, although a classic wrestlemania match would have been nice. It has tonnes of interesting features on the history of wrestlemania and is fully packed.
