Product Description

The Very Best of the Stone Roses is just what the world needs--another repackaging of the best of a band whose meagre album output (just two albums) inspired not only a whole host of indie rock bands across the UK, but also a generation of record company execs intent on making new money for old rope. To be honest, there's nothing to be found on The Very Best of the Stone Roses that doesn't already exist on the aforementioned albums--their seminal self-titled debut and their long-delayed (and inferior) follow-up The Second Coming. Granted, it's always a pleasure to hear some of this band's biggest songs, including "I Wanna Be Adored", "Made of Stone", "I Am the Resurrection", "Ten Storey Love Song" and "Love Spreads". However, all but the most die-hard Stone Roses completists will be hard pressed to justify shelling out their hard-earned money for some new John Squire artwork on the cover and a rare interview transcript in the liner notes. --Ted Kord Description 'The Very Best Of The Stone Roses' brings together for the first time tracks from the bands eponymous debut and their follow up album 'Second Coming'. Charting their rise through the 'Madchester' scene of the early nineties with their distinct brand of 60's influened indie rock, the album also features the singles 'Sally Cinnamon', 'Fools Gold' and 'One Love'.

Customer Reviews

Roses Are Forever5
The Stone Roses are the third best band in the history of rock & roll.
The band discovered by Sounds journalist GARRY JOHNSON are up there with The Sex Pistols and Oasis...
This album is a fantastic collection of classic songs...every home should own a copy...when Garry Johnson wrote the first ever live review in Sounds Magazine he said "This band will be bigger and better than the The Beatles" and he was 100% right.

Great Album...But4
I loved the original music, and this is great, its nice to hear it digitally remastered, however it is very annoying that I can't listen to it on the best sound system I have, my Windows Media PC all set up perfectly, and wired throughout the house, as it's one of those CD's which annoyingly ejects as soon as it spins up, tried it on friends PC's, all to the same effect, why did they have to put such retarded copy protection on it, it just means as well as getting a legitimate version, I will also have to get a pirate copy so I can actually listen to it how I want.

What the world is waiting for...5
Those of you who are criticising this as a "cash-in" are missing the point. The tracks on this CD have all been remastered from the original master tapes and as such are sonically far superior to the other Roses CDs, particularly the debut album and the earlier 'Complete Stone Roses' compilation. Both of these CDs sound flat and lifeless by comparison despite the wonderful music. As well as including most of the best tracks on the 1st.album, there's a number of non-album tracks like 'One Love','What the world is waiting for','Sally Cinnamon',etc.
'Elephant Stone' and 'I am the resurrection' are both the full-length versions too. Obviously a compilation like this isn't going to please everyone, but this really is wonderful timeless music.
All we need now are proper remasters of the debut, Second Coming, and also the Complete Stone Roses compilation.....
