CD Description
Suprisingly enough, it no longer takes an adult to perform as an adult in today's music industry, especially one filledwith so much young talent. Proving that her age has no bearing on her music's maturity, R. Kelly's protege Aaliyah debuts with AGE AIN'T NOTHING BUT A NUMBER. Aaliyah complements the album's material, appealing to both R&B and hip-hop listeners, while managing to "keep it smooth with a jazz attitude".
Detroit's Aaliyah surprised the public when she succesfully hit with her first single, "Back And Forth", which found its market on the club scene. The album's other highlights are soft, mellow tunes like "At Your Best (You Are Love)", "Young Nation", "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" and "DownWith The Clique". Producing all tracks, R. Kelly definitelyhas a `90s swing evident on this project. Also obvious is that Kelly writes all but one song, because what fifteen-year-old can drive or make love. It's no secret that R. Kelly isthe mastermind behind this endearing album.
Customer Reviews
Soul swinging Aaliyah packs sweet R'n'B is one hip album
Aaliyah's earliest effort shows the definate potential in this R'n'B singer. The album has a sweet melodic approach including the smooth beats of "I'm So into you". She brings slow thoughtworthy songs and hip funky grooves into one gorgeous album. A must buy for all Aaliyah fans, it is by no means a disappointment. If you like "Try Again", then listen to "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number" this is definately one for R'n'B fans as well.
Classic Old Skool
It's been 11 years since the release of this near flawless album and also 4 years since the stars untimely death. "Age Aint Nothing But A Number" was released at the start of the summer of 1994 the year that music was starting to mean something to me. Being 8 at the time i was just coming into my own as people say...music wise and this album was one of the big influences of my life. Even today most of the material on it can't even match what music was back then. It's definately a great summer album especially the 1st two tracks "Throw Your Hands Up" & the smash hit song "Back & Forth" which propelled the then 14 year old the person she became by the time her 3rd album was released. Other highlights on the album include the fantastic cover of the Isley Brother's classic "At Your Best (You Are Love)" which really compliments her voice and does the song alot of justice, also "Down With The Clique" which at the time was my favourite song on the album. The title song was also a favourite of mine and listenin' to it even today just takes it back. "No Knows How To Love Like You Do" is a great uptempo track and also "Street Thing" is also a note worthy song which you can tell has R.Kelly written all over it "Young Nation" is just a great feel good song as well as "Old School" and the great closer "I'm Down" even the remix to "Back & Forth" makes the original seem a little inferior...just a little though hehe.
So if you love 90's R&B, Aaliyah or just love really great music get this album its a classic album and im glad i have it my collection

4.Young Nation
5.Back & Forth
fantastic album
this is a brilliant album for its time and i think the best work that aaliyah ever did. it has been said that she recorded this album with a cold and her voice does sound very husky at times but that is with no detrement to the finised article. 'at your best you are love' is a gorgeous track, better than the remixed version that appears on several compilation records and 'no one knows how to love me like you do' is also a stand out that was never a single. i can listen to every track on this album and skip none as they are all fantastic. well worth buying if you don't already own it! not on this album but i also recommend that you get hold of the single she made called 'journey to the past' from the film anastacia, as it showcases aaliyahs voice like no other song of hers does.
