Customer Reviews
this what it's all about
C-rayz has been on the New York underground scene for sometime, but many people will not have heard his skillz as this is first true album apart from a compilations of previous 12" and poor distribution of earlier releases etc..
This ablums brings together his strong battle style skills with the consciously based content of many of the songs. The Delivery varies with the content, but remains punchy and clear. There are no weak tracks or fillers on album. The beats are strong throughout most of the tracks and remain varied.
Songs like '86' display his history and his background in the scene and some of values he brings with him. 'The line up' includes guests - Vast aire (can Ox) MF DOOM, j-trends, and Thristin howl. When you can get the company of MC's of this calibre you know your listening something good, and if you've enjoyed releases by these people then you won't be disappointed by this album. Seal killer deals with environmental issues which provides a different angel to the album, but this again is delivered well by his skills and doesn't fell like token contribution. Elephant Guns is another favourite due to good use of metaphors.
It's always hard to get across how good an album is, just buy it! and Bump it!
Ravipops the sublime
There was only one label that could release an album this good and that is the consistently excellent Def Jux. C-Ray Walz' debut album is an absolute corker, the beats are off the hook, the lyrics are sublime and the overall production goes beyond the boundaries of quality. If you like your underground hip hop and lap up every Def Jux release, you'll obviously have this. However if you are a hip-hop head whose thinking C-Rayz who? ignore that thought and go get enlightened. The only niggle is that there isn't an EL-P beat, but hey when you have a plethora of East coast talent on standout track the 'The Line up' who can complain. Walz on people
