Refreshingly Challenging
After my local Ashtanga yoga class was cancelled I bought this dvd hoping it would allow me to continue this style of yoga I love so much. I wasn't disappointed! At first it was a real challenge with positions such as Warrior 1, half moon pose and quite lenghty upward bow positions. I was amazed at how quickly I have become comfortable at all the asanas and even more impressed my how much of a total body workout it is - my figure looks and feels better than ever. The work out takes about an hour and has a good relaxation section at the end. What i love the most however not not having to watch the screen at all once you are familiar with the positions as Rodney Yee talks you through everything very well. This allows you to really focus on your body and breathing. Definitely not for beginners though as it doesn't contain any guidance for getting into asanas - you must know what you're doing before you attempt this dvd.
Wish I had not brought this as a sole reference!
I read a review about this DVD before I bought it which warned that the workout was rather monotonous and as long as you could deal with an eternity of downward dogs you would be ok. I chose to ignore this advice to my loss. I found this workout, peaceful and effective by oh my god, was it boring. A continous cycle of downward dogs with a few other moves slipped in. There was no break between sections so unless you have an entire hour to dedicate you will be late for work! I also found it very 'American' in the worst sense and I am regretting having this as my only Yoga reference. To be kept for a once in a while on a Sunday when you have lots of time to spare. Mind, I hurt a lot the next day!
At last!!! A Yoga DVD which gives you a good workout!
After continuously reading about the benefits of Yoga I have been searching for a yoga class or DVD that I have enjoyed.
Of the three classes I have tried they all focused on very few poses and a lot of relaxing! As a very hyper person I wanted to take advantage of Yogas muscle building skills and not the relaxing part!!! (I know I should enjoy both!)
Anyway, the couple of DVD I have bought have also been far too slow paced.
Now this one....................thrst time I tried it I was sucked in straight away. It is well explained, easy to follow and a real good workout!!! The next day all of my muscles ached and I haven't felt like that since I started working out 10 yeasr ago.
It is brilliant and I really feel like I have had a brilliant workout. Definitly try it, it is hard going but great!!!!!! 5 STARS!!!
