Amazon.co.uk Review
Just when it seems Timbaland and The Neptunes really do have the monopoly on R&B's stock of all things big and clever, along comes Lumidee's Almost Famous. Aided by barely-known producer DJ Tedsmooth, the 19-year-old from New York City's Spanish Harlem uses her debut album to turn her peers' hi-tech hit formula on its head, eschewing sci-fi scatter shot beats and cyber funk squelches for nothing but a stripped back rhythm track and sultry harmonies. While on paper it might not read like something to get too excited about, first single "Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh!)" certifies her barebones vision as a potential pop masterstroke. Between the simmering vocals loops and the sweltering Caribbean hand claps, "Never Leave You" is the most revolutionary thing to happen to R&B since Kelis screamed her way through "Caught Out There". Better still, the tender clicks, smattering of Spanish guitars and hushed melodies make "Honestly" and "For Keeps" ballads that brim with real affection, not unremitting slush. On the downside, sometimes she's too understated for their own good--with little in the way of hook or backing track to hold the attention--and she could do without standard issue club tracks such as "Crashin' a Party". Even so, Almost Famous is far from just another off-the-rack R&B album. --Dan Gennoe

Just another one
19-year-old Lumidee has possibly one of the hottest tracks on radio right now. The remix of “Never Leave You (Uh Oooh)” is a club banger no doubt. Very catchy, with that irresistible Diwali rhythm that also fuelled Sean Pauls “Get Busy” and Wayne Wonders “No Letting Go”. The rest of her debut is unfortunately a bit faceless, aimless and sometimes even sluggish. But there are some good harmonies, even though her voice is not one of that strong choir singers. Supported by renowned artists as N.O.R.E., Busta Rhymes and Fabolous the album gets a bit of a fresher note. From the first impression second track “Honestly” sounds a bit like “Never Leave You” as is got the same tune and same bridge. Despite the fact that “Crashin' A Party” (feat. N.O.R.E. & DJ Tedsmooth) is another one of this usual r&b – hip hop collaborations it is still carpetbagging though. Well, the rest I already told you… But I guess, whoever likes that urban reggae vibe is going to enjoy the album. Well then, make up your own mind.
it ain't all that
This is not the worst album I've bought but it's certainly not the best. The 'never leave you(remix)' with busta and fabolous is banging and 'honesty' with n.o.r.e ain't too bad either but the rest is all heard one, heard the rest sort of thing. Not worth buying but if you wanna learn the hard way, good luck.
It is OKAY
To be quite honest, it isn't a great album. The girl can't sing (lol) No seriously! She can not sing! BUT her voice is just right for the type of sound on the album, otherwise she can not sing, PERIOD! I love the vibe on the album, the beats, and vocals on the album, BUT IT IS ALL, how u say it? It is all SAMEY if u know what i mean. the intro is dull, the song honestly is the same thing as the never leave u single. And then there is the club song she does with N.O.R.E and this unknown peerson called DJ Tedsmooth, which is not that BANGING! My fave song is MY LAST THUG. Who is that girl raping on that track? Anyways, overall, it is worth to buy 'cause i do got a couple of friends who really like it, so go get a copy and if u don't like it, u can always burn it (lol)!!!
I haven't burnt mine tho (lol), i am just keeping it as one of my record collections. Damn i wrote too much, let me stop right here (lol)!
