Bass your mind off4
Few months ago I bought a 37" HD ready LCD Tv and soon I realised that you have to have some decent set of audio stuff to go with that.

First item I bought was Sony STRDG910B which in my mind is a brilliant AV sender/receiver. Then there was a time for set od speakers. The problem starts when you have to work out how much you want to spend on them. There are 1000 if not millions of speakers on the market varying from £100 - £as much as you can imagine! Putting that in mind I have set my budget to £600. Having that in my mind I knew that there's 2 types of people: Those who are mad about sound, and those that want to have plug and play set of speakers delivered in a box ready to play as soon as you connect them. I was the second one as money an was issue. Going through countless reviews the SA-VE835ED came out best for that kind of money. I done my shoping and found them for £450 which saved £150 fo all the cables I had to buy.

I live in a rented room so the space is very limited and there's loads of obstacles for the sound to come to my ears. I decided to put 2 front and 2 back satelites in corners just next to the ceiling, center went on top of tv and sub went just underneath the bed as this where I sit while watching movies. First time I turned them on the sound was crap as satelites closer to me were blasting and rest of them was a bit silent, but with help comes STRDG910. This beauty has a built in Auto Calibration and the only thing you need to do is to hold the microphone that is included in the place where you sit and it does all the rest. Done that and everything is perfectly set up.

This set of speakers blasts a decent low and high frequency sounds so I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something good but has a low budget. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 star rating is that they only come in grey colour. All my other bits are black and I was hoping you can get them in different colours but unfortunately you can't, but this seems like a tiny sacrifice if you get to listen to them.

Don't think any longer and give yourself a treat with this brilliant set of speakers.

Unexpectedly decent performance4
Having bought an STR DB1080 amp/receiver, I needed to get some decent speakers with matched 8ohm ratings. I didn't have the space for a set of full-size speakers, so investigated sub/sats, the new trend for having a decent sub and five ranged speakers with the frequency range distributed across the sub-sat field. I looked at many manufacturers offerings, but eventually plumped for the 835ED's as I got them at a very good price.

Wow. The accuracy of the amp's sound steering is fully exploited with these innocent-looking little speakers, and the extended definition allows them to respond up to mind-boggling frequencies - frequencies way beyond human hearing I might add, but they help make the sound more convincing than lesser packages.

The output is impressive, able to cope with 140W input according to the specs.

Adjustments to the amp's output settings will be required to really get the best out of these speakers, as they may just sound like "also-rans" if not tailered properly. The sub is powerful and packs a punch, and with a suitable multi-channel DVD playing, the sound can really inject into your brain.

They are by no means perfect, however..

They use spring clip terminals, which, as any audiophile will tell you, is a no-no. Other binding terminals are considered preferable, and to be perfectly honest, expected when you are spending this kind of money. It doesn't make a great deal of difference truth-be-told, as a connection is a connection and it is hidden within the stands anyway.

The provided wiring could be of higher quality, although it isn't terrible by any means.

The front two speakers don't have long-enough provided cabling. I couldn't immediately place the front two where I wanted. You may want to invest in extra cabling.

The sub will auto-off at low volumes, which is good for powersaving (and the function can be switched off if necessary), but sometimes if I just want some music on quitely in the background, with the sub switching off you lose a lot of the lower range of music, so you find yourself upping the volume to get it to power-up again. - Not a big deal by any means.

Generally, though, I am more than happy with them, and on top of everything, their looks belie their abilities.
