Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Wisely keeping the core of operations pretty much in tact, LMA Manager 2004 is more about refinement than anything radical. But refined it certainly is, with improvements to be found right throughout the game. For those new to the franchise, LMA Manager works for several reasons. It's easily accessible, designed around a console controller and, when it gets to match day, gives you the option of watching a game rather than presenting you solely with rolling statistics. It's this match-day section that's always put it ahead of its console brethren, as not only is it visually healthy, it genuinely allows you to see your tactics work or fail before your eyes. Then, if things aren't going to plan, you can make interventions that have a real impact. This match-day section has been tightened notably for the 2004 release and now works better than ever.

Furthermore, the game has several other enhancements of note. The new expert mode, for instance. is a rock-solid challenge for those who like their games particularly tricky--and LMA Manager 2004 is no pushover as it stands. Then there's the added depth of the tactical side, which allows you to tweak your approach on a player-by-player basis. It's also worth noting that the number of statistics packed in have headed north: when combined with the freshly added leagues that have made their way into the game, the result is a very buoyant in-game transfer market.

Perhaps the biggest criticism you can level at it is that it hasn't really evolved an enormous amount. But that doesn't detract from the fact that LMA Manager 2004 is an exceptionally strong title that will keep you glued to your console for a very long time. --Simon Brew

Totally Amazing5
This game is brill. It almost gives you everything, 3d football match the greatest ive ever seen on a football manager game. Its incredibly addictive and it is nearly as good as championship manager although their is not nearly the same amount of players and statistics. Anyone with a spare 30 quid should buy this game!

Wait for LMA 2005...2
I've been playing football strategy games since 1984 and I can't remember all of them, but there has always been a king on the throne. There was Football Director, Premier Manager, CM and now LMA. All the games have always had one of 2 main styles; massive statistics or a advanced match-engine (2-d or 3-d). CM is the king of statistics and LMA has the best match-engine. So if you want to buy a game like LMA you buy the realism and joy of the match-engine, not the statistics.

I am a CM-man, but I loved LMA 2003. During the match you could see the different characters of the players; the tough target player, the fast frontrunner, the goal scorer, the brutal central midfielder, the creative genius, the fast winger etc. But the game had some major flaws; 300 free kicks in 1 game, the graphics of the 3-d match etc.

So I was really glad when Codemasters changed all of this in LMA04, but what a disappointment. They haven't added anything to the game, only repaired the mistakes. So I set my hopes to the improved 3-d match. What a let down!!! The shots are flying like balloons in the air, 90 percent of the passes are nice flick passes, every team play like the Brazilian national team, even Scunthorpe, and all the players are Zidane. A bit slow, but with fantastic vision and passing.

Wait for LMA 2005 and be very sceptic about it.

This is a regression from Ultimate Soccer Manager!1
This game is simply rubbish. I bought this on the basis of customer reviews on this site, what a mistake that was! Realising that the game would not be a patch on Championship Manager I was prepared for a less comprehensive management sim, but this game has zero redeeming features.

Anyone remember the Ultimate Soccer Manager games on PC?....It is of a similar ilk to those titles, except its no fun! I fail to see how there is any entertainment to be gained from this game.

WARNING: Buying this game is tantamount to placing 30 English pounds down the drain.
