Editorial Reviews
CD Description
A lot is made of MxPx's Christian beliefs and lyrical themes, but one listen to BEFORE EVERYTHING & AFTER reveals a band whose positive outlook differs little from legendary NYC hardcore straight-edge combos like Youth of Today and GorillaBiscuits in practice. In addition, the group performs with a relaxed confidence and professionalism unmatched by few rock bands of any religious inclination. Though the album cover shows the group members sporting more tattoos than a ship full of drunken sailors just back from leave, the music contained on the disc is all good-time mosh-pit fun. Not contentto rest on its laurels, however, the band branches out intoemo territory, with several songs ("Quit Your Life", "On the Outs") reveling in personal and romantic subject matter that's definitely more adult than one would expect from a bandmost often associated with skateboarding junior high schoolers.
Customer Reviews
west coast punk carrys on
this is a great album, however it is not as punky and fast as the rest of the mxpx albums but its not disappointing! Sounds a bit blink182 but that doesnt have to be a bad thing!!!
10 years still running? Why are they?
I never buy a CD without listening to some tracks on it before hand, so when i saw bafore everything and after, i searched to listen to the songs, but that was hopeless. I've always liked MxPx so i thought, i'll buy it anyway' What a mistake! I was so excited when it came through in the post, i put it on immediately, as was shocked by the sound. I know MxPx aren't exactly a punk band or anything, but i was unaware of how poppy they've become, at their best they sound marginly like a Blink 182 wannabe, but most the time they sound like Good charlotte! credit where it's due, there are a few good songs on it such as Broken Hearted, Everything Sucks when you're gone and More Everything, but 3/16 songs being good isn't a great achievement! Unless you like good bands gone to the pop and mainstream world, avoid at all costs!
Best so far!!
Ok I've heard the prerelease of Well Adjusted which is track #3 on the CD, which features 16 Punk Rock songs. This is definitely MxPx's best album, with the exception of Ten Years and Running. Of course 10 Years and Running featured only 2 new songs and the redone Punk Rock Show along with MxPx's best over 10 years (except they left out responsibility and im ok your ok). This album is almost as high quality as that! However, their new single (unreleased as of now) "Well Adjusted" Is their best song yet, it even blows Punk Rock show and Responsibility away! This song is awesome, look for it on the pepsi comercial with the mosh pit in the mud. I give it a 10 overall!
