Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
If it works, as they say, why fix it? Offspring's Splinter, their seventh album, is delivered with much of their usual brio, seldom straying from the boisterous, semi-funky ska-pop that fuelled their 1994 mega-hit Smash. To a degree, this is a shame, as when they do stray they're a far more interesting proposition. The acoustic lament "Spare Me the Details", bemoaning the nefarious bedroom activities of a faithless girlfriend, is actually quite moving, while the closing string-swept "Prison Song" adds a touch of wit to proceedings. As for the rest, it is as you'd expect, from the ultra-rapid "Da Hui", through the classic thrash of "Never Gonna Find Me" to the juvenile chuckle-fest of "The Worst Hangover Ever".

Despite the fact that the band have covered most of these themes before, their fans will surely love this album, and quite rightly so. Within the very strict parameters they set themselves, the Offspring create their own little riot of fun. --Dominic Wills

CD Description
'Splinter' is the seventh studio album from Californian punk outfit The Offspring. Produced by Brendan O' Brien, producer of 2000's 'Conspiracy Of One', the album sees the band stick with the popular quirky punk sound that has served them well over the past few years. The single 'Hit That' is also included.

The Offspring are back, but are they better?4
I couldn't wait for the Offspring's latest album but I wasn't sure what to expect. With a few bands changing direction under pressure from the public, just for the sake of changing (Im sorry Blink 182, please step forward)I half expected Splinter to go the same way. Dexter Holland rapping? Gangsta beats? But thankfully this wasn't the case.

Splinter, like the albums before it is very Offspring-esque. Nothing too new or radical but it rocks the CD player just as well as Ixnay, or even Ignition did. If your a fan of the Offspring then buy it if you have't already, if your not a fan then I wouldn't buy this album, start with Smash to hone your tastes.

As far as the song listings go 'The Noose' and 'hit that' are the pick of the bunch, and 'when your in prison' is a refreshing and unexpectedly funny surprise right at the end. No hidden extras if you leave your CD running though, which is a real shame.

Its a good album, buy it.

Splinter = pure class4
Yet another succesful album from the offspring. Some really catchy tunes and choruses and i would recomend this album to any offpring fans. If you are new to offpring then i would advise this but recomend smash and americanna they are 2 awsome albums. here is a list and rating of each song on hte album.

Neocon - a great start to the album not really a song but good (6/10)

The noose - a brilliant song with a catchy chorus (8/10)

Long way home - a great song a gets a well deserved (7/10)

Hit that - only 2 mins 51 secs long but a magnifficent song one of my favs (9/10)

Race against myself - another good song (7/10)

Can't get my head around you - easily my fav but no songs perfect even though it is wkd (9.5/10)

The worst hangover ever - bit of a joke song but very funny (7/10)

Never gunna find me - A bit different to the others but a good listn (7.5/10)

Lightning rod - again a bit different (7.5/10)

Spare me the details - a good song not really rock a bit more quieter (7.5/10)

Da hui - swearing and rocking for a min and a half not great(6/10)

When your in prison - A very funny end to the album about how not to get bumed in prison (8/10)

A very good album by the offpring. I have only one bad thing to say about this album and it is that the songs are very short although there gr8 so it doesn't matter. A must buy

A diverse album4
Most of the Offspring albums have a general feel to them, Smash, has a distinct old school punk rock feel to it, while Conspiracy of One seemed to be edging towards the more pop rock side of things.
I cant seem to be able to place this album in terms of genres, 'Lightning Rod' and 'never gona find me' have that distinctive smash feel that we have all come to love. 'Spare me the details' is more like something you'd find on a Blink 182 album! and then theres the much pre- publicised 'Hit That' which breaks new ground for the offspring, with its catchy and sometimes annoying keyboard riffs. 'When your in prison' can only be decribed as weird :-S!!(I'll leave you to find out why ;))
This album in my conclusion is not on the same level of Smash, but it has broken new grounds and quashed any fears for me that offspring was heading to a more poppy feel after cospiracy of one. Its a great album, deserved to carry the offspring name. Go buy it.
