Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Obie Trice's Cheers should have been way more than simply the sum of its notable parts. Being "down" with hip-hop's unholy trinity (50 Cent, Eminem, Dr Dre) can act as either an absolute blessing or a tremendous burden. With production from the latter two and knob-twiddling by Timbaland, one would think that all he'd have to do is phone in his verses and start collecting big royalty cheques. But that ain't the case. Firstly, Trice's all-star cast of homies so clearly outshine him; Eminem's verse dominates the misogynist "Lady", Dr Dre's terrific keyboard loops and anti-Ja-Rule rhymes stand out on "S*** Hits The Fan" and 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks tear up the nihilistic "We All Die One Day", so that you start thinking that maybe he should have limited his VIP guest list.

On the catchy synthesized club banger "Got Some Teeth" and the loosely autobiographical "Follow My Life", the focus group named Shady Records give Trice some room to demo his unique sense of humour, in particular on the former track where he hopes that his bar-hopping booty calls are not repulsive in the morning when the booze wears off. As expected, the two Nate Dogg collaborations ("The Set Up" and "Look in My Eyes") are two of the more enjoyable, radio-friendly tunes, but they also reveal just how slightly-above average an emcee Trice is. Cheers is more D12 than 50 Cent in terms of quality. --Dalton Higgins

CD Description
After brief appearances on 'The Eminem Show' and the 8-Milesoundtrack Obie Trice releases his debut album 'Cheers'. Produced by Dr. Dre, Timbaland, and Eminem and featuring vocals from the likes of Dre, 50 Cent, and Busta Rhymes, the album is a mix of inventive production and Trice's down to earthlyrics delivered in his gruff quickfire style.

The Best Rap/Hip-Hop Album This Year5
I bought this album chiefly because of the fact it is produced by EMINEM. It turns out the slick production is only one of the many factors which make this one of the best albums ot the year. Some of the tracks are utterly amazing, with tracks 1 through to 10 being brilliant, and the rest being good at the very least. The best tracks are without doubt: (in order)
1. Cheers (track 2)
2. We all die one day (track 10)
3. Got some teeth (track 3)
4. Average man (track 1)
5. Don't come now (track 5)

There is a range of beats and rythms in this album, and accompanied with great lyrics, excellent rapping and incredibly slick production, makes for, in my opinion the album of 2003.
