Product Description

In TimeSplitters 2 the evil race of TimeSplitters are travelling back into human history, authoring events that are leading to the enslavement of mankind. Controlling a motley crew of renegade characters, you must hunt them down across environments such as the gangster-filled 1920s, the temples and lush jungles of the Aztecs, Soviet military installations of the Cold War and futuristic robot-factories in space.

TimeSplitters 2 delivers involved single-player and cooperative story modes; it has a complex narrative, multiple objective-based episodes and animated cut-scenes. The game engine has been extensively upgraded to accommodate bigger environments and special graphic effects, and the MapMaker has been enhanced, giving more options to the advanced gamer looking for customisable game scenarios.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Want to play a first-person shooter on your console? Tired of there being no proper GoldenEye sequel? Wishing that you could play the part of a Barbary ape in the Wild West? TimeSplitters 2 is the game for you if you answered "yes" to any of these questions.

When Rare made GoldenEye for the N64 in 1997 they created the best first-person shoot-'em-up the world had ever seen and, arguably, has ever seen to this day. Many of the geniuses behind the game left Rare shortly after to set-up their own company, Free Radical; their first game was the rather rushed (in time for the PS2's launch) TimeSplitters but this sequel is polished to perfection and easily one of the best games of the year.

One of the main problems with the original TimeSplitters was its awful single-player mode, but this has been totally revamped for the sequel with a proper story mode, all-new time zones and weapons and absolutely mountains of unlockable hidden extras. Thankfully they’ve kept the wicked sense of humour from the first game, but there's also a lot more strategy for solo players this time around, including an amusing homage to GoldenEye's Arkangelsk Dam level as well as pastiches of other games and films scattered throughout the game.

The real reason for TimeSplitters 2's greatness, though, is the multiplayer mode. This is GoldenEye to the nth degree, with superbly designed levels, tons of weapons and all sorts of tricks and gimmicks such as remote control gun turrets and invisibility pills. It may lack the epic scope of Halo but in multiplayer mode at least this is a lot more fun--and fun, as The Beatles never said, is all you need. --David Jenkins

Manufacturer's Description
Prepare to battle through history as the evil TimeSplitters get ready to rise again. TimeSplitters 2 will improve on the original in every conceivable way, offering a more involving single player and co-operative story mode and featuring a complex narrative with multiple objective-based episodes and superbly animated cut-scenes. The game engine has been extensively upgraded to accommodate bigger, better backgrounds and special graphical effects while still providing the distinctive smooth fast paced action of the original. A completely rewritten animation system incorporating inverse kinematics brings even more lifelike movement and dynamism to a new collection of "loveable rogue" characters. TimeSplitters 2 will retain the unique MapMaker in an enhanced form, which opens up even more potential for user customised game scenarios.

Customer Reviews

“Timesplitters 2” is a lot like “Goldeneye”4
And rightfully so,since a few of that games developers have since moved on from Rareware and started their own company called Free Radical Design.
The game’s story is actually quite limp but this doesn’t spoil the game at all. What I mean is there is nothing really linking missions together. The general idea is that mankind is at war with an alien race that has the ability to travel through time. These Timesplitters decide to jump to various points in our history in an attempt to annihilate us before we knew they were coming. The first mission,Siberia,is an obvious nod to Goldeneye, with similar music, enemies and atmosphere.
Icing the already tasty, cake is the Challenge mode. There are around 50 challenges all together and some are hard completing these unlocks more levels and characters for multiplayer.
You shouldn’t question my short review.Timesplitters 2 is top class and I urge all Xbox owners to go buy it.If you do need more convincing then check this out;its got MONKEYS in it.

This IS a great game4
A lot of the reviews for this seem rather unfair. True, if you play the game with the AIM mode always on, the controls are very twitchy and aiming is hard, but u need to switch the aim mode off and play WITHOUT the cross hairs (except when using a sniper rifle) after a while you develop and a good sense of where to aim and if ur aim is off you can always see where ur bullets are going, and without the crosshairs the controls are excellent and not twitchy at all. The graphics in this game are superb although the enviroments are not as rich as say in Halo, but there's never any slow down and lighting effects are amazing. This is a more of an arcade game than Halo, it's just a different game full stop than Halo. It's got it's fault sure, like the checkpoints not being saved if u switch off ur xbox, but overall it a great game a heck of a lot of fun

Goldeneye AND monkeys! Hoorah!5
Hoorah it's good! And interesting! And a challenge! and there are monkeys too! What else could you possibly want? Most first person shoot-em ups get pretty tedious but this game is ingeniously broken down into smaller sub-plots that keep the interest going. Each plot is well thought out with good challenges that reward thought instead of all guns blazing action although there's definitely scope for that too. Further to the main story there are all sorts of extra challenges.
I know it says it in the main amazon review but this really is a modern day Goldeneye. With hi-tech laser guns. And monkeys!
