Customer Reviews

Story! Character! Genius!5
I hate to see reviews on here from people who say "this game is released in two months but its bound to be great...5 stars!", at least ive played this game...but im only about 4 hours in! but i had to review it because its been totally missed by the pc crowd, and to a lesser extent, the console lovers too! Its a third person action/adventure that will remind you of the N64 zelda games, lucas arts point and click games and also rares highly acclaimed jet force jemini and banjo and kazooie. Ok, i used to love console games. The thing is that the pc games market is moving ever onward with a multi player slant. All you are generally required to do is shoot anything that moves at one end of the market or wade through pages of rpg menus at the other end. These cross genre games dont really go down well on the pc. Shame! Cos while you were all hiding in this years foliage dodging 56 other caffeine addled real people i was enjoying a story telling experience. Quality oozes from every pore of this game. Yes its french but the french slant on these things seems to be getting closer and closer to the japanese idea of a good game. And the japanese love to be entertained. I wont go in to the ins and outs of the structure/story..in short you are jade, world being invaded, you have a lighthouse full of orphans, you have to catalogue the worlds animal population with your trusty camera to make money, theres a conspiracy (of course), tons of things to collect, your uncle is a pig!, you zip around the world in a hovercraft purchasing upgrades to both yourself and vehicle, the graphics are lush * dont install the patch unless you already have problems!!! It'll bugger your game up!*
All in all a perfectly balanced masterpiece from the creator of rayman (but dont let that put you off) with gameplay to die for and characters that you really end up caring for.
NIggles are that it does seem a little buggy, what with he patch issues and all, and it starts a little slow and derivative. But stick with for a few hours and you'll be grinning. One of those rare games that you have to stop yourself from playing so you have something to look forward to for tomorrow!

Good story, good universe - average (tedious) gameplay3
This game has a great story and an emmersive universe to dive into. I loved the graphics and the wonderful characters - great sound also.

The problem is the gameplay - a standard mix of "thrilling situations" - mostly constituted by the gamer's ability to press buttons rather than something else. Also the mix between free camera and fixed camera had me very frustrated at times.

It seems to want to appeal to other than regular gamers, but in reality it's just an action game - same old, same old..

It certainly had great possibilities in the story line and game world etc, I just wish the game developers would have done something else with the gameplay, than the 'small boss. medium boss, big boss'-model & 'button-athletics'..

So 2½ stars for graphics & story - and ½ for gameplay.

Beyond Good...4
I decided to buy this game after reading some very good reviews, and I'm glad I did.

OK, it's a console port, with some of the usual problems (i.e. camera & controls). The control method has been carefully adapted for the PC, but it's quite cumbersome, and I don't understand the lack of gamepad support (doesn't every PC gamer own a PS2 pad and adapter?).

These issues aside, the game is an enjoyable console-style action adventure, with some good characters and a engaging plot. The game obviously had high production values, and has plently of variety including puzzles, fighting, racing and lots of photography! I felt myself pulled back to keep on playing in a way most games don't manage now days, and I just had to complete the final boss to see the ending.

If you don't expect anything too different or new, and you like this syle of game, then this is well worth a try.
