Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Like the Beatles and Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson is one of the handful of artists that can release an album of their number one singles. Number Ones includes his solo chart toppers in the UK and abroad from the period beginning with his Off the Wall album right up to the new song "One More Chance", a collaboration with R Kelly. The remaining 17 songs on the album are all classics drawn from the disco-soul Off the Wall, the funky Thriller, the good Bad, the safe Dangerous, the semi-best-of History and the weak Invincible. Regardless of whether the bulk of Number Ones has appeared on other greatest hits albums, this is still an incredible selection of Michael Jackson's best music. --Georgina Collins

Customer Reviews

Listen up! This album is brilliant!5
I'm actually listening to this album as I write my review to get some inspiration! MJ's on the music industry cannot be acknowledged as anything else but massive! He's been in the public eye since the 1960's so there's no doubting his brilliance. His private life is another subject alltogether but, that aside, the man is a pop genius who has a huge influence in a variety of musical styles. I'm not a huge MJ fan but I am able to see the mastery of his songs and the impact they have had on his fans. "Number ones" is an 18 track compilation of his greatest hits and I quite agree with the album title...they are number ones - each song in it's own way has been brilliant! Overall, I love listening to this album because it's amazing how these songs still seem fresh and relevent many years after they were recorded. If a song can do that it's a number one any day of the week. I can only hope MJ can get his life back together and hopefully thrill the world again with another number one album!

There's no doubting MJs musical genius, he broke barriers and he will be back because he is Michael Jackson.

An essential Michael Jackson album5
There's no shortage of Greatest Hits albums for Michael Jackson, so often it's hard to decide which one you should opt for. I would absolutely advise you to get this one, even if you do have another one of his lying around, as this is a brilliant summary of his most successful tracks to date, and is the most neatly and conveniently assembled of all I've seen.

For starters, this is just one disc with 18 tracks as opposed to a daunting two or more CD catalogue, and has a succinct yet wide reaching track listing. Opening with "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" and moving chronologically through his alleged European Numbers 1s right up until "One More Chance", which I personally hadn't heard of and certainly wasn't a Number 1 anywhere of note, this CD covers all the songs that have become such a given in pop music : "Thriller" "Billie Jean" "Smooth Criminal" and "Black or White" just four of the list of great tracks to be found here. The term "Number 1" is used loosely obviously, but it doesn't particularly matter that the last couple of the tracks weren't even hits in most places let alone chart toppers as the entire albums flows brilliantly and all the tracks are great songs in their own right anyway.

This album would be particularly good for people who are looking to really know Michael Jackson's music better, and for those who want a shorter but still satisfyingly long album of favourite hits to dance and sing along to; in short, an album that will just never get old. A great buy and worth every penny!

You rock my world!4
I bought this after not really hearing much of Jacko's music, only the big ones that everybody knows. And I LOVED IT. It will make you want to dance even if you've never danced in your life. Perfect for someone who, like me, had never bought Jacko's music before. Great car music, or housework music!
