Good Stuff !
This is one of the best workout DVD's around if you want a good cardio workout and arm, legs, abs and butt toning all in one. If you're a beginner, don't be put off, it's hard work and you'll probably have to walk out some of the main 40 min routine, but stick with it and after a few times you'll find it works you just until you're ready to collapse! The whole DVD takes around an hour and 20 mins, so I tend to save this one for the weekend when I have the time (I recommend Elle Macpherson - The Body Workout and Kate's Cardio Combat, if you want a slightly less strenuous workout in under an hour) but you can skip the floor work and get it down to an hour if you're pushed for time.
If you've done Nell's Peak Energy, you'll find the moves more varied and less repetitive. And if you liked Shouting Army Bloke, you'll be pleased to know he's back! This time, although he still has a problem counting like the rest of us, he seems more relaxed and even laughs a few times. Nell, who doesn't say much (which I like) really looks like she's working hard and I find that a comfort, after all I'm sweating and knackered at the end and it's good to see that she is too! Also look out for the woman with the permanent smile (or is it a grimace?) and the guy behind Nell who seems to be doing a whole different workout to everyone else!
Thoroughly recommended !
For serious keep-fitters....!!
If you want some poncy semi-celeb shouting inane words of encouragement at you whilst flouncing around a keep-fit studio and a giggling instructor squeaks instructions at you.. then this is NOT the DVD for you.
Max Impact is hard work - I defy anyone, regardless of their level of fitness NOT to work up a decent sweat during the interval training. If you prefer complicated dance routines with steps and moves that serve no real purpose in terms of getting you fit, Max Impact won't suit you.
This DVD is perfect for those who want a hard, serious workout for those who are committed to losing weight, toning up and melting fat. You can follow the routine in a relatively small space as virtually all of it is carried on on the spot.
The abs, bums and legs routines after the interval training really test your endurance - it's fantastic to be stretched physically, and to know that no matter how many times you complete the workout, you'll always be challenged, break out into a sweat, and your muscles will have a superb workout.
Nell does what she does best; looks pretty, smiles alot, and with such a great body, she inspires you to work as hard as possible. I'm sure most chicks will be muttering "If only I looked like her.... " whilst gasping for air.
The music could have been a little more uplifting, as a great tune tends to make you forget the pain! But it's fine, pumping and provides a decent background to the workout.
To those who complain that they were disappointed in the 'lack of Miami scenery' etc., I suggest they opt for a holiday promo film.
In summary, if you are serious about having an aerobic workout, plus toning and working out your whole body for great results (I've lost 3 in off my waist in just a week) then this DVD is brilliant!!
Maximum Impact
I'll divide this review into two sections. One for those who are completely new to Nell's approach (and haven't tried the first video), and the other for those of you who have brought her other video.
1. If you've tried Nell before- then you will definitely enjoy this one. Remember doing peak energy (which I loved, by the way), and thinking- what a good workout, but wishing it was slightly more varied (and more merciful ;) ? Well then this video is for you. It is slightly less intensive,(you'll stilll sweat buckets though) with less 'running', and more fast walking/ crouching. And as a bonus, there are punches in this one which is good if you like tae-bo. the bum section is more varied and more effective, as is the stomach section. The arm toning, however, is much easier and I was slightly dissapointed about that- but you can easily skip it and replace it with the peak energy arm section and then switch again! the location is more glamorous and somwhat refreshing , and Nell's body is better than ever! And the instructor actually smiles more..if you like that.
2- If you're new to Nell Mc Andrew working-out, then i'll outline the routine:
- 10 minute warm up, (and if that doesnt warm you up, then nothing will!)
- 40 minute routine, a mixture of running on the spot, star jumps, punching movements (lots of these) whilst walking/marching, and knee bends. will get you sweating, but with breaks in the right places.
- 20 minute toning. first half is resistance work, i.e arm toning which you can do with/without weights. suits beginners.
then next half is press ups/sit ups, bum toning and cool down.
Like I said, this is a thorough workout which is as effective as it is enjoyable.
