Customer Reviews

simple and effective5
When I got this DVD I was a complete newbie to yoga, I was quite nervous about whether or not it'd be too challenging, but on the other hand I was also concerned as to whether it wouldn't be challenging enough, and that I'd be bored all the way through.
Well I didn't have to worry about either of these things, this DVD is fantastic, the poses are relaxing, yet challenging enough for you to realise you're actually doing your body some good.
I had no idea that yoga worked your muscles so well, the first time I used this I woke up the next day and I was stiff!! Since then I've been following it about three times a week and I've really noticed a difference, my legs are getting really toned, and I generally feel a lot stronger, mentally and physically.
As for Linda Barker, to be honest I was never really a big fan of hers, but after seeing this I've gained a lot of respect for her, she's brilliant, she explains well, she doesn't talk to much, there's no vying for the limelight, unlike other celebrity exercise videos that can be ingratiating to watch.
This is purely about the yoga, simple yoga.

Simply Yoga without the celebrity ego5
This dvd is simply about the yoga, as opposed to other celebrity yoga extravagazas, which are more about the egos of the celebrity themselves. Linda Barker has rather overexposed herself since her time in the jungle, however she presents this dvd in a clear and straightforward manner, without the patronising tone or annoying backchat of other dvds. Having done yoga before this is the perfect tool for developing my practise. Being a dvd you can mix and match the different sections to suit your needs. There is no overly long warm - up or cool - down, leaving longer time for the yoga postures itself. I was unsure about the breathing section, however, being a dvd you can easily skip this part onto the next. Its over an hour long, but it is broken down in such a way that it does not feel that long and soon whizzes by. You feel completely energised and relaxed by the end and can feel the difference the next day!I would definately recommend this dvd for beginners and intermediates alike.

A surprising and enjoyable introduction to yoga!4
Not being a particular fan of Linda Barker, I was a bit dubious about this DVD at first. I'd done some Pilates before, so I felt reasonably confident about the idea of trying yoga from a DVD rather than going to a class. So I did the usual online research to find out which DVD would be the most likely to suit me, and sent off for this one ... and have been amazed ever since.

I'm not going to go into the benefits of yoga as an exercise - plenty of other reviews cover that. My reason for trying yoga was to do something good for both my body and my stress levels, so in theory this was always going to be a good option. What amazed me was *how* good it was - a much more intense workout than you think you're doing, (and isn't that what everybody wants from an exercise program?). And Linda is actually a really good presenter - nothing like as fluffy as she is on television, full of enthusiasm for the practise without being annoying, and really good at pacing the instructions so that you can a/ keep up and b/ keep breathing. You may snigger a little at first at instructions like "let your whole being smile", but they are fairly infrequent, and by the second or third time through I discovered a goofy smile on my face at exactly those moments, so she seems to know what she's on about!

The only place where this DVD falls down from 5 stars is ... breathing. Fairly fundamental to yoga, and I felt that Linda didn't really give enough instructions about when to breathe. Or which way to breath (in or out - it makes quite a difference to how the stretch feels). On the other hand, you don't feel obliged to juggle "correct" breathing and correct posture ...

To conclude - with a great deal of surprise, I'd have to say that I would strongly recommend this DVD to anyone who wants to try yoga in the privacy of their own living room. And yes, if Linda brings out a "Slightly More Advanced Yoga" DVD, I'll be putting it on my shopping list too.
