Brilliant
Anyone who has heard her collaborations with artists such as Aim and Rae & Christian knows that Kate Rogers is an amazing artist, the likes of 'Sail' and 'The Girl Who Fell Through The Ice' were good tracks made great by Kate's vocals.
Her solo album is a complete change from what we are used to hearing from her. I was pleasantly surprised to listen to something so different to what I had been familiar with from her and other Grand Central artists. I'm not sure exactly what genre to place her in... but this doesn't matter- it's beautiful, whatever it is.
I can't actually fault this album at all, I personally love this relaxed, more acoustic style of music. It's one you can easily listen to without needing to skip tracks once, a true refection of her talent.
What else can I say? 5 stars..
And if you like this style of music then definitely check out 'Seconds'- her album of covers... even I, not being a fan of many cover tracks, think it's certainly worth a look.
oops i forgot to say
Emiliana Torrini?!
I have "Love in the Time of Science", and it sounds nothing like that. Emiliana Torrini is amazing though. She sang "Gollums song" inwhich she sounds like Cerys Mathews. Emiliana Torrini is one of many to come from Iceland- so many famous people, Sigur Ros, Bjork, Emiliana Torrini, Mûm just to name a few.
Emiliana Torrini sounds like a mix between Bjork and Cerys Mathews, nothing in voice or style to kate rogers. But independently they are both amazing.
How Rude!
Erm; Excuse me. Did I hear you right? Did you liken Kate rogers to Dido?
Well, you like Aim and you have heard of Kate Rogers, so you have atleast half a brain, but likening it to Dido? How Rude!
dido has a couple of good tracks and the rest just blur into one another with me forgetting where one starts and the other ends. Whereas Kate rogers is amazing.
I agree her best song featured on hinterland by Aim, but still this album is amazing.
I do agree with it being more folk orientated, but nothing like Dido, who should have stayed just as the vocals of Faithless (congratulations to Rolo and partner for their child). I would place Kate Rogers more like Aimee Mann (Lost in space is a good album) and Beth Hirsch (album: Early days, co-wrote Air's "all i need" [moon safari])
I commend GrandCentral for such an amazing album, which i took to venice and helped me on my journey to leeds and back in a day.
If you like Aim, maybe you might like Rise, by Presence, i don't but hey ive got a weired taste of music (snooze (going mobile and man in the shadow), sneakerpimps (bloodsport)and jhelisa (language electric) to show how varied my taste is.
