Manufacturer's Description
In Monster Hunter, creatures from all walks of life coexist with mankind. The struggle to hunt or be hunted is the only way of survival. As the story unfolds, individual characters develop through surviving battles and the strength of the weapons and protective gear they possess. Weapon shops located in the neighbouring towns and villages allow hunters to purchase, create or strengthen powerful weapons and armour using items collected during combat and the skin or horns acquired from the monsters that have been defeated. The variety of armament combinations used or obtained is almost limitless. However, its effectiveness will vary depending on the materials used to produce it.
With online multiplayer scenarios, gamers can participate in group sessions of up to four players working as a team to vanquish powerful monsters and accomplish tasks. For instance, work collectively to create traps for unsuspecting monsters or distract a monster's attention as a friend tries to escape from a dragon's nest, carrying an enormous egg. Moreover, new quests and items will be available for use on the network. Monster hunters will be overwhelmed by the possibilities that online play lends itself as Monster Hunter reveals the expansive world that awaits them.

hunter hunter on the wall
exellent game but there could be improvements on the graphics but on the whole i will never leave my ps2 ever again.
GET THIS GAME!
Disappointing !
I think all the other reviewers work for Sony ! I bought this game partly on their advice and partly becuase it is usally the type of game I would enjoy. In fact, I am still annoyed that I am not enjoying it. The controls are terrible and the user manual does little to inform the user or enable him/her to get going. The early missions are tedious in the extreme. For example, go and collect a lost herb ! I haven't got to the later missions because I can't find the herb and I am not enticed to go fishing. If the testers had ironed out some of the user friendly problems this could have been a good game. However, as it stands I have spent several hours playing it now and haven't progressed beyond my mission of flower arranging. I bought this game to hunt monsters (dragons et al) not to fish for salmon. Could be a lot better.
Capcom does RPGs? Is this a joke????
No, it isn't Capcom have shrugged off their 90's image of just providing 2D side scrolling Beat-Em ups which we used to love and adore. Not any more, these guys are ratcheting up the pressure on Square-Enix, Sonic Team and Bethesda for the RPG must-buy factors.
Not played it much, but for what i have experienced, this game has a lot going for it, kill Creatures, and use their bones, hides and teeth to augment and repair your weapons and armor...
Exactly the kind of game i look for, where the most obvious answer isn't the one where you rush to the end in a blaze of ill-fated glory....
This is a thinking man's game, Storming into battle against the biggest monster there is may seem brave, but you'll end up spitting teeth and screaming for your mum if you ain't prepared for the onslaught.
This is a must have for anyone who wants to get the MAXIMUM out of their games, where your brain, not the controller decides how successful you are. Only Shadow of The Colossus which will be released soon will match it for life expectancy..
Buy it if you like a tough challenge, otherwise, go back to spyro and crash bandicoot, better making frisbees out of them...
