Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Give or take two or three choice (if predictable) cover versions of songs by Bread and the Bee Gees, Bring It On is the largely self-penned debut album from guitar-strumming Fame Academy runner-up Alistair Griffin. A waggish former milkman and English literature student from Whitby, Griffin likes to write his own songs (how novel) and his musical preferences have been known to take in the La's and John Lennon.

Impressive though this might be, none of it meant very much to the grumpy Fame Academy judges ("bland and "unemotional", they said) who, herein, are proved to be partially right. Too many light, soft songs on Bring It On seem to have been written in a gooey-eyed state of lovestruck semi-consciousness. However, when Griffin gets urgent and hits upon a truly memorable tune he really has got what it takes to make a pop career beyond his 15 minutes of teatime fame on the gogglebox. Two such examples are the splendidly catchy "Hungry for Love" and the heart-fluttering summer pop infatuation of "Something About Her", the latter finding Griffin putting those English literature studies to awesomely ambiguous use with his strategic use of the word "defile". Write this chap off at your peril. --Kevin Maidment

Breathtaking debut5
This album has been eagerly awaited by fans who had already heard Alistair on Fame Academy, knowing he had so much more to give with his own songs. This album certainly does not disappoint. Ten of the fourteen tracks have been written or co-written by Alistair, showing the range of his songwriting talent from beautiful balads "You and Me" and "Feeling Alive" through anthemic "Bring It On" and compelling "Real World", to the more upbeat "Something about Her" and rock/pop "Oblivion" and "Hungry for Love".

They have obviously felt the need to include some covers from Fame Academy, which is a shame when Alistair has so many of his own songs to offer. That said, they have chosen the best three - "Everything I Own" sounds wonderful, Alistair gives a fine performance "Jealous Guy" and as for "Wherever You Will Go" I far prefer Alistairs version to the original. The weakest track for me is the "Lovers Prayer" duet with Robin Gibb, a nice enough song but lacks the impact of many of the the tracks on this album.

It's hard to choose a favorite track, as it is rare for me to like so many tracks from one album, so I'll choose three - two breathtaking balads "You and Me" and "Feeling Alive" with the rocky "Hungry For Love". Tip for the next single "In Your Smile"

People criticise singers coming from TV talet shows, but with this offering, Alistair shows a real singing/songwriting talent and has a great "real music" feel being guitar/piano/drums based and not over produced. Wonderful debut. Can't wait for more.

I've guessed, am I right?5
Alistair Griffin... runner up in Fame Academy and now he's set to make it big time. All you that have heard his debut single Bring It On will, surely agree. He's young, talented, a fantastic singer/songwriter, and he's gripped the hearts of many devoted fans. (me being one of them!) His album is sure to be good. From the 30 second clips that can be preveiwed on his official website, this is proved. Oblivion, seems to be one the most popular so far, but all 10 of his 'own written' tracks have the potential to go far. This is new talent as we've never seen before, help him get the recognition he deserves.

An Impressive First Album5
I have liked Alistair's voice since I first heard him on Fame Academy, and was very impressed with his own compositions even then. Now I've heard his album a couple of times I can truthfully say there isn't one track I don't like. This debut album may not be groundbreaking or controversial - but it is jam packed full of brilliant upbeat and melodic songs that you'll find yourself humming at the bus stop. As well as the infuriatingly catchy 'Bring it On' there are several others I can already see whizzing up the charts, notably 'Oblivion', Something About Her' and 'In your Smile'. Well done Al!
