Quite magnificent5
There are countless neo-soulsters knocking around at the moment. Few have anything remotely resembling the kind of talent of those they are ripping off.
Van Hunt - along with others like Remy Shand, Hilary Mwelma, Floetry etc - have the ability to write songs. Real songs, with lyrics that rise above the ordinary, arrangements of substance, melodies and harmonies that creep into your conscience and stay there. Simply, they are proper, talented musicians of "class". Van Hunt deserves to be in the top eschelon on this select few.

This album has several outstanding tracks - I mean classics. "Precious", "Seconds of Pleasure", "Hello Goodbye". Not a duff track on the album and if at times he is derivative, he certainly chooses the "right" influences.

Rare quality, and in places, breathtaking. An album to play over and over again, each listening offering something fresh and new to discover.

Brilliant.

The Album Prince Should Of Made5
Van Hunt is a newcomer to the neo-soul movement that's taken over at the moment. His music is in comparison to D'Angelo & Prince with its mellow laid back summer vibe. Van came to my attention at the ned of last year while browsing the internet for a music video and his one popped up for "Down Here In Hell (With You)" i love the song so much i decided to buy the album

1.Dust - I was told this was the 1st single but i've never seen the video for it right at the start it sounds like Goapele's "Closer". I really love this song it's just one of those songs for lazy summer nights a cool up-beat song to start off this wonderful album 10/10

2.Seconds Of Pleasure - My favourite song on the album its got Prince written all over it i can't help to compare Van Hunt to him because he is just that good!. It's a slow burner its about spending time with the one you love and every second is pleasure a beautiful slow jam 10/10

3.Hello, Goodbye - A bit more of a commerical sound on this one the chipmunk sorta singin towards is really cool this song is about him loving someone but he never knows if the person is gonna stay or leave "Keep running in and out my life Hello, goodbye" another cool up-beat song 10/10

4.Down Here In Hell (With You) - As i said before is stubbled on this track my accident this was the 1st or 2nd single the video was kinda cool sorta like a big brother theme this is kinda like a Prince song too. This was also released as a single over here on the 21st of March (I Still might buy it hehe). I just love the melody to this song its just beautiful 10/10

5.What Can I Say - This song is very Stevie Wonder i really like his vocals on this one this is one of my favourite as well it just reminds me of Disney films tho lol but its so beautiful it's just him and a piano with the occational string loop its a very lo-key song 10/10

6.Anything (To Get Your Attention) - The only song i don't really listen to its got a heavy D'Angelo vibe even down to the vocals. I do like it but its just don't seem to go anywhere 7/10

7.Highlights (Master With Breakdown) - This song is really great i don't know what the instrument is but i'll call it the "Knocking wood" sound which i think is a really great effect another up-beat soulful jam which could easily be a single release if only he would get the recognition he deserves 10/10

8.Precious - Another Stevie sounding song a beautiful ballad which is another of my favourites and the other thing i like about it, it sounds like its live which i feel makes the song so much better he really knows how to write beautiful music (I keep saying beautiful 'coz thats the only word to describe hes music). This also sounds like the Isley's would have sung this 10/10

9.Her December - I think it sounds like an old TV theme tune it's a really great up-beat song which has a spanish-y vibe to it and a D'Angelo vibe as well i like the lyrics because hes comparing a women to being december all cold & bitter lol gotta love this 10/10

10.Hold My Hand - This song is heavily influenced by 70's soul music it's not the best song in fact i feel its the weakest track on the whole album it's nice it just hasn't grabbed me like the others have 4/10

11.Who Will Love Me In Winter? - What a great song so mellow so sad so....well just so damn beautiful. It's a good way to wind down the album 10/10

12.Out Of The Sky - Cool way to end the album but it could have been better 6/10
