Reader Rabbit
Excellent learning tool for ages 3 - 5 years. The children have to collect coloured gems by completing the exercises. The games cover all the key elements e.g. numbers, counting, identifying colours, recognising letters, matching etc. My son of 4 years enjoys launching the rocket when all the sparkle naughts are inside. Since he has started reception he is able to play even more of the games alone. Excellent choice.
Reader Rabbit Sparkle Adventure
My 3 year old son loves this package. He soon appreciated the value of the coloured stones that you collect - and loved collecting blue ones to make rainbow fountains. There is some mismatch between the level of skills required for the five main games, but maybe that is good as there are some which are easy while others are more challenging. The bits of video are annoying to grown ups but on the whole it contains less bits of unavoidable video or chat than most similar programs. All in all an excellent learning and fun package for pre-schoolers who have mastered basic mouse control.
Simple games for little learners.
Reader Rabbit was the first educational game I got for my little one, and it hasn't really been surpassed in terms of quality. It is not to say that the other titles have been poor, as they haven't. However, this one sets a very high standard.
There is lots of fun to be had here, as simple counting and letter skills are gently tested. The games are fun too, my girl loved the free-form rounds in the flower painting game where she got to draw them how she wanted to draw them!
And I still find myself humming some of the reward songs...
Technically, this runs fine on XP and I see no reason why it wouldn'r work with Vista, though I didn't try it personally.
