Amazon.co.uk Review
Frasier picked up its second series with another round of comedy as intelligent as its pompous title character. Fortunately, the sniping between Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) and his father, Marty (John Mahoney), that took up a lot of the first series is mostly past, and the crack ensemble was ready to roll in a number of memorable episodes. Frasier tries to set up Daphne (Jane Leeves) with the new station manager in "The Matchmaker", Frasier, Niles (David Hyde Pierce) and Marty go fishing in "Breaking the Ice", Frasier and Niles jump into politics in "The Candidate", the team of Frasier and Roz (Peri Gilpin) breaks up ("Roz in the Doghouse") and Frasier and Niles open a restaurant in "The Innkeepers". It was Pierce's Niles who emerged as a star in the second series, lusting after Daphne, learning about parenthood in "Flour Child" and challenging a Bavarian fencer for the hand of his ever-absent wife, Maris, in the comic tour de force "An Affair to Forget". Pierce picked up a well-deserved first Emmy and the show repeated its first-series Emmys for comedy series and lead actor. Frasier's dates included Jobeth Williams (whom he takes on a disastrous getaway to Bora Bora), Shannon Tweed and Tea Leoni. Other guest stars were Nathan Lane and, from his original show, Cheers, Bebe Neuwirth and Ted Danson. --David Horiuchi

DVD Description
Emmy Award-winner Kelsey Grammer is Frasier, the hilarious psychiatrist first seen on TV's Cheers and subsequently the start of this smash-hit comedy series. Frasier is a half-hour comedy series set in Seattle, WA, which chronicles the lives of an eloquently pompous radio show host Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer), his brazen radio producer Roz (Peri Gilpin), his competitive, high-brow brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce), their crotchety father Martin (John Mahoney) and Martin’s semi-psychic, live-in home-care provider, Daphne (Jane Leeves).

The gang's all here for the complete second season of this wry and witty sitcom. Frasier Crane infuriates the entire city of Seattle when he complains about its rainy climate during his radio talk show. Meanwhile, his father Martin finds his favorite bar is slated for the wrecker's ball -and could it be that Frasier and Niles are behind its demise? Roz considers a new job offer...Daphne finds her privacy invaded...and Frasier's romantic island getaway with a new girlfriend is ruined when his ex-wife is discovered happily ensconced in an adjacent cottage!

Fraiser: My Favourite Comedy of all time....5
After an excellent first season I didn't see how 'Frasier' could possibly improve, but believe me it has! This second season is just one classic episode after another, with excellent character intereaction, wonderful, deep writing, perceptive performances from all the lead role, and best of al it is actually funny!
Basically Frasier Crane is a radio psychiatrist living his entirely different father Martin, and his out-spokem Manchester bread physical therapist Daphine. With regular visits from Frasier's snobby brother Niles and producer Roz, this Seattle based sitcom is guaranteed to always make you laugh! However this review cannot do this brilliant show justice, so you'll have to buy it for yourself. Some episode bighlights would include 'Matchmaker', which is perhaps the best piece of farcical television ever made, 'The Innkeepers', which sees Frasier and Niles open a restaurant together, as well as a furhter 22 classic episodes that you can watch again and again. Highly recommended.

Which one is better - Friends or Frasier? A question you hear often but personally I don't think Friends is fit to be compared with Frasier. I agree with most people, here in the UK we have many intelligent sitcoms e.g. Yes Minister, Blackadder etc but Frasier is one of the few the Americans have!! Friends is annoying, the script has no substance, the characters have 'card board' personalities, but most of all it's not funny! Frasier makes a refreshing change, it's suitable for all ages and it's good to know that whilst only two seasons have been released here in UK - there's plenty more to follow. A more suited rival for Friends is Will and Grace as they incorporate similar style of humour and characters, on the other hand Frasier should be compared to some of the British sitcoms.

The irony of Frasier is that he is someone who solves other people's problems but can't solve his own (maybe he should take his own advice). Every episode has a moral where Frasier becomes more enlightened about life in general and his family. It goes to show that no matter how educated or self reliant a person; they will still require guidance and advice from time to time. Niles is an even better character (voted number 9 is Channel 4's 100 Greatest TV Characters list). He is the successful and camper brother of Frasier whose role chiefly revolves around his ongoing desire for Frasier's house-keeper Daphne.

The sitcom is also a great insight into the upper class disposition. It even goes further in showing the key differences in the classes; Frasier being discontent, fussy and elitist (even against his father), whilst Daphne is unsophisticated and resourceful. However the real winner is the humour which is both witty and dry, and in comparison with other shows, this is a rare statement to make about an American sitcom. The jokes are as sophisticated as the characters themselves and do not undermine the viewers intelligence. Every character develops through time, unlike Friends where they churn out the same thing episode after episode. An exceptional and rare gem to come out of the States, Frasier is truly genius and deserves your company.

At the height of its powers5
Highly recommended - some of the most well constructed and comic episodes are included in the DVD - the intricate classic 'Matchmaker',the farcical 'Innkeepers', and the unforgettable 'Agents in America', to name three of many triumphs. Each displays a difference in approach, but each delivers wit, compassion and a number of lines worth tucking away for future quotation.
Now that the series has finally finished, what pressure can be applied to Paramount to accelerate the dvd-ing of the rest of the series?
