A Great Console for a Great Price
The three 'next gen' consoles are impressive, it has to be said - the PS2, with the ability to play DVDs and PS1 games with no extra add ons needed, the GameCube, the tiny, cute little thing that can be played in the car (with the right add on) and can play Game Boy games...
And then, there's the X-Box. The only console to sport an internal hardrive - no more memory cards, plus the ability to create your own playlists of music and play them at your leisure, even while playing!
It may be the size of a moving van (and bulletproof, according to a news article from the States), but that is completely made up for by superior graphics, sound - and of course, the internal memory.
One drawback with the X-Box is that to play DVDs on it, you need an add on (that goes into a controller port) and remote - now, with the hard drive, this shouldn't be a problem; methinks Microsoft were simply money-grubbing with this move, but the £20 this costs is nothing compared the amount you'd need to spend if you bought another console. (New memory cards, an MP3 player if you wanted playlist functions... that adds up!)
But, if you do happen to use up the 50,000+ memory slots Microsoft has provided you with, you can buy memory cards for the XB - these slot into the control pad itself, much like the memory cards in the defunct DreamCast console, only better looking.
In conclusion, I have to say the X-Box is the best of the bunch, specs wize. It doesn't sport as wide a variety of games as the PS2, and is twice the size and weight of the GameCube, and has its own shortcomings, but I personally find the X-Box a very satisfying console to play on - and hey, if you ever happen to have a gun fight in your home, at least your X-Box will be fine! (OK, bad joke, I know)
Great deal!
I was one of the unlucky (possibly blind) people who bought the normalxbox. Let's face it, it's an ugly behemoth of a console. Also back then itcame with the old controller, which itself was nearly the size of aGamecube. The benefits of this package are that it actually looks niceIMO, and comes with 2 of the newer, smaller controllers, that are muchmore ergonomically designed, and easier to use.
Despite it's gargantuan size, the xbox is the best console i've everplayed. The graphics (depending on the game of course) are truly superb, and the sound is fantastic in adding atmosphere to a game (i'm thinking ofHalo's exciting music that comes on whenever things get a little hectic).I have to of course mention the hard disk which I had many (huge) savefiles and 6 whole CDs saved on to and plenty of room to spare. I can'tcomment on the "Live" feature as i don't have it, but needless to say, ifyou like to play against/with others around the world, the Xbox isideal.
Some may have concerns over the relative lack of games comparedto the PS2\, but this is changing. There are already great titles such asHalo and Unreal Championship(fps), Project Gotham Racing 1&2 (racing),Tiger Woods, Tony Hawks, Top Spin (sport), Soul Caliber and Dead or Alive3(beat'em up), the GTA Double Pack, Splinter Cell, Star Wars KOTOR andMorrowind GOTY already out. Future titles include Halo 2, Fable, NinjaGaiden and Star Wars: Republic Commando, to name few.
For anyone looking for a new console, i highly recommend the Xbox, and ibelieve this is great price for the package.
Crystal All The Way
I was sceptical about the X box, this ultimate console sweeping the floor with the PS2 and Camecube. That is, until I played one. The X box is like a dream come true. It has amazing graphics with a selection of brilliant games, along with it's online functions, the X box is going to take over the gaming world. But then you take a closer look and you see the large clumsy black object in front of you, your dream shatters...snivel. But suddenly a knight in shining armor is born in the form of the Crystal X box. This is the real dream machine. It is a regular X box, but instead of that clumsy black outer shell Microsoft have hatched a new white semi-transparent beauty, it even has lights inside that make the Crystal X box shine if left turned on in the dark. I loved the new inprovement so much I decided to order myself one. I look forward to many years of bliss and hope you join me on the way.
