Customer Reviews
Just fine !!!
I bought this album on the strength of a review i had read about it, and i have to say i am so pleased i did.
I actually bought it the same time as buying Rahsaan Patterson new Cd "after hours" and i have played Carmen Rodgers constantly and Rahsaan has not had a look in.
It is a beautiful blend of jazz, soul and R&B.
It begins with Aint no time a laid back, funk vibe, a great opener. The next few tracks have a more R&B soul vibe, then its back to neo world with one of my favourites, Fallen.
The next couple of tracks, for me have to be the weakest, im not really feeling these but then the title track Free lifts us back up into neo world and finishes as strongly as it starts.
If you like neo soul i would definately recommend this, and if you do i would also check out Geno Young who has written, produced and played instruments on this, his album is called The Ghetto Symphony.
Im gonna go and give Rashaan my time now and see if its as good as Love in stereo or even as good as Ms Carmen Rodgers!
Several feel-good tracks for listening pleasure
Carmen Rodger's Free is such a wonderful cd. It is reminiscent of good old 70s soul music when singers' vocal qualities complemented the background music and were not dependent on the music. Back in the good old days of R&B, singers like Stevie Wonder, Deneice Williams, and the Emotions made an album that would contain several good tunes. Unlike many of today's R&B cd that may have one-feel-good track, this cd can boast that several good tracks like those oldschool greats. I like the entire cd myself. Carmen's cover of the Captain & Tennille hit, "The Way That I Want To Touch You" is one that I liked immediately. My current favorite is also "Just Believe", a track that reminds me of something that Alicia Myers might have sang. Like Alicia, Carmen has that silky, effortless delivery of soul. It's wonderful to hear a cd that captures a nice blend of jazz and R&B with quality vocals. When I can play a cd over and over and not tire of it on the third or fourth replay then, the artist has won over a tough critic. My ears and heart don't take kindly to just anything. This cd has been kind to my ears and heart.
classy carmen
Carmen strikes again!. True quality neo soul artist giving us smooth classy tracks with a laid- back feel. The feel good factor strikes again on this album.
A must have for any true neo soul fan. Great vibes!!!!!
