Album Description
The Super Funk series has been operating for five years now and after last year’s diversion into the female voice with the successful "Funk Soul Sisters", BGP return to the straight compilation format with the favoured mix of sought-after classics, super-rare masterpieces and undiscovered gems. From the first category they bring you the awesome floor filler by the New Jersey Kings - ‘Party And Don’t Worry About It’ which hasn’t been reissued since the late 80s and still commands a three-figure sum whenever it comes up for sale. In the ultra sought-after category there is Billy Garner with his Detroit rarity ‘I Got Some’ (once sampled by Gang Starr), Ron Buford and Ural Thomas’ really hot record of the moment (£200 and rising) ‘Deep Soul’, whilst E. Rodney Jones and friends’ ‘Soul Heaven’ (an instrumental version of Syl Johnson’s ‘Is It Because I’m Black’) is also in ‘record of the moment’ mode with the collectors). Other super in-demand cuts are here by the Chili Peppers, Vernon Garrett, Chet Ivey and Lee Harris. If you’re looking for stuff that the funk fan will be hearing for the first time, there are two unreleased cuts from funky Phoenix, Arizona - a blistering JB-alike from Eddy Harrington out of Chicago and several others. The full colour booklet includes photos of virtually all of the original singles, and photos of several of the artists, while the notes reveal much, including the connection between Billy Garner and Joss Stone!
