Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
A new Gilles Peterson compilation is always a source of excitement for jazz, world and soul aficionados the world over. This Worldwide Exclusives set is doubly thrilling as it translates into 14 tracks from some of the world's hottest acts, unavailable anywhere else. Starting the set are long-time Peterson faves Cinematic Orchestra, with the slow and sassy "Wheel Within a Wheel". It's not their most rhapsodic work, but it's a gem and perhaps heralds a new direction for the crew. Umod (the alter-ego of Domu) appears with a quirky, Mr Scruff-esque tune called "Puffin Dance"; NSM posits more of his sparse phuture-soul on "The Show"; and Nicola Conte plies some sophisticated jazz moods on "Waning Moon". Add the incredibly authentic Cuban trip of Seiji's Pata Cumbele and the syncopated beats 'n' bass offerings of Jazzanova and Herbert and you have yet another impeccable Gilles collection. --Paul Sullivan

Album Description
For this new collection, Gilles Peterson has hand-picked some of his favourite exclusive tracks, unavailable elsewhere and unique to this collection. Following on from Peterson's acclaimed Worldwide Programme series, which was released in response to the demand from his listeners, the compilation reflects the pioneering spirit of his show. UK hip-hop champion Ty rubs shoulders with the laidback soul of Eric Roberson and the golden tones of Shaun Escoffery; Seiji's Puerto Rican stylings fit nicely with Jazzanova's unmistakable boom click beats, and the unlikely pairing of Matthew Herbert with Roisin Murphy works well.

Customer Reviews

WOW5
this album is the best fusion of jazz/soul/funk and world sounds. im not sure why i bought this album. i think it may have been because i had realised gilles was a dj on radio 1 and had seen some of the music he would play but never actually heard it (radio1 website)...im so glad i took the risk. my car had a shop full of cds in it till i got this one. its everything in one album.
to put it simply, if your music taste stems from zero7, nitin sawhney, erykah badu to maxwell you 'll love it. A funky album with a summery flow and a underlining of chilled out beats.

disappointing3
i rate this album only 3 stars because it lacks originality. in fact, these songs are quite common, and available in a lot of other places. considering that it comes from a man who usually packs his compilations with little gems, this album is definitely disappointing.
