Editorial Reviews

CD Description
Killswitch Engage's third album (the follow up to 2003's 'Alive Or Just Breathing') is the first to include vocalist Howard Jones (after their last vocalist left in late 2002). This album sees the band's metal-core sound progress as it is much heavier and leans more towards 80's thrash then the previous album's hardcore sound. As on the band's earlier releases, the album is produced by guitarist Adam Dutkiewitz (also producer for Every Time I Die and From Autumn To Ashes).

Amazing...5
From start to finsh this album is excellent.
Former vocalist, Jesse Leach, appears on one track(#2 Take This Oath) providing backing vocals and the chorus which is different than anything you would expect. Another highlight is on track six (2min6secs) when lead guitarist Joel gets to solo, which is something I would have liked in more Killswitch Engage songs. It is not your average solo either, it is full on shreading - Kirk Hammett-esque. The first single, Rose Of Sharyn, is probably KsE's most commercial song but noe the less it is still more
metal than say Hatebreed (I like Hatebreed honest!). When Darkness Falls from the Freddy Vs Jason Sdtk has been re-recorded with new drum patterns but it also makes the song alot better sounding. The whole album is amazing so pre-order it now because its your duty. Go forth metalhead.

Howards the man!!5
After listening to the first album(Alive or Just Breathing) then listening to the second i have come to the important conclusion that 'the' Howard Jones is the best man for the job, after taking over from jesse(original singer)he has taken the band onto a new level of greatness, the new songs sound excellent(they make me head bang) and howards voice adds to the whole feel of the band.
'A bid farewell' is a brilliant start to the album, it brings all the ellements of the 'old' KsE and mixs them with the new members, 'Rose of Sharyn' is the radio friendly song off the album, but it gets people into the band. The solo in 'Breathe life' is amazing and brings a new edge to the 'metalcore' scene which so many bands keep appearing from.
All in all i would advise everyone to buy this album, it kicks ass, and its amazing

Killswitch Engage4
This is Killswitch Engage's third album, but their first with vocalist Howard Jones; who replaced Jesse Leach in 2003. The album itself it absolutely superb. Real Metal at it's best, with heavy grungey guitars, acompanied Bass, and fast drumming. However, Killswitch Engage show a very melodic feel to their music. Even the super heavy start of 'When Darkness Falls' has it's area of "singing"; most songs beginning with rage, but entering an emotional chorus or bridge.

The guitar work is truly superb. Tight playing, and well written riffs. The drumming is also very good, the double bass drum being used on many occasions. But the vocals, people may differ in oppinion on this subject. Jesse was an absolutely fantastic front man. With his rageing screams and growls, and his emotional singing, he really was the best "Heavy Metal" could offer. Howard Jones is also very good in his own way, and I think the veteran Killswitch Engage fans are the ones who dislike him. I personally prefer Jesse, but I know many who prefer Howard Jones, I guess it's all just down to personal taste.

I think the album is absolutely fantastic, and Killswitch remain my no.1 favourite metal band. Stand out tracks like 'A Bid Farewell', 'When Darkness Falls', 'Rose Of Sharyn', 'The End of Heartache', and 'World Ablaze', really show off their musical talent, and I would seriously recommend this album to anyone who likes Metal with an Emo backing.
