Best album of 2004
Every now and then, an album comes along that blows you away and makes you re-evaluate your relationship with your record collection. "Connected", for me, is one of those albums.

Words can't do this album justice. If you find your once-rosy relationship with Hip Hop has become a bit strained lately with the influx of poor quality music being produced in both the States and the UK and you long for the days when Tribe Called Quest would bring the dopeness every time...you'll LOVE this album like a long-lost child returning home.

Superbly-produced, brilliantly scribed and rhymed, Foreign Exchange have dropped possibly the best Hip Hop album of 2004. Don't sleep on it, go buy it now.

summer niceness
nice is definitely the best word to describe this album. with the smooth, highly polished production, brimming with sweet horns, gentle keys and a lot of attention paid to the drum machine this record has a really fresh and laid back vibe. the rapping is good, but nothing more than that. little brothers phonte spits most of the bars, definitely upping his game after the afore mentioned crews wack releases. his skills are evident, avoiding too much bragging, but still displaying his tight rhyme schemes and solid flows on every track. the other rappers are average, not bad but don't deliver any memorable lines. the singing is sometimes sickly sweet, but as everything is overshadowed by the beats, it doesn't take anything away from the overall feel. the dutch producer, Nicolay, is definitely gifted, the laid back grooves would be a perfect canvas for a more skilled wordsmiths such as gift of gab from blackalicious or del the funky homosapien to work with, and the combination of smooth soul and jazz samples and originial instrumentation bring a new dimension to the sound, giving it more energy than alot of exclusively sampled based producers. this album is well suited to summer evenings with wifey, but probably won't impress if you drop it at a party. buy it, but buy it for the production.

Hip Hop is Still Alive
Just when i though hip hop was beginning to stagnate with the slew of poor and artistically lazy rappers spiting "rims" and "hoes" on every joint, there finally comes an album worthy of critical acclaim. This album is fantastic, the beats are varied and melodic, the lyrical content can be both venemous and conscioius all at the same time. Some of the standout tracks are "raw life", "be alright" and "All that you are" If you are looking for something which slightly different but not to abstract then this is a great choice. I've had problems finding inspiration among the 50's and the Lil' Johns. If you love hip hop then sit back, and let this album bring the genres former glory back to make your head nod.
